HOA Happenings

A message from our Principal
Families of HOA,
Many of you when enrolling for Hillsboro Online heard me say, “It is not going to be perfect,” and I meant what I said. The smoke has cleared, the sun is shining in a beautiful blue sky and the first of the holiday decorations are filling the seasonal store aisles, but we still have Covid - 19 and we still are not back doing school the way we want to do school; students, parents and staff, principals too!
We will get through this.
A big thank you, (and hug), to those of you who have sent such encouraging notes and emails to staff. They are so appreciated! We also appreciate the feedback on what is not going so well. We can’t fix something if we don’t know it’s broken! That said, sometimes it is out of our control, as was the case with the frustrations of some behind the scenes technology. It seems to be holding now.
We also continue to add additional staff, which is a good thing, but it also causes a ruffle in the system because it means a change in teacher for students impacted. As far as staff, I am pleased to announce our new counselor, Kenneth Ollis who will be officially joining us sometime this week. We also welcome Abinaya Srinivasan as our fulltime Speech and Learning Pathologist who started last week. Welcome to you both!
Joining HOA in the next week or two will be:
An additional half time counselor for high school students
An additional halftime 5th/6th grade teacher
An English Learner Specialist/Teacher
More information coming on all!
Sticking with the theme of whitewater, I wondered what last week and this week compared to? Quiet, but murky waters came to mind, where you wonder what is just under the surface ready to rise up and cause some kind of a ripple! Let’s hope they're all small!
This week is a short week, with teachers all in Professional Development Sessions on Thursday and Friday a day off for staff to attend Statewide In-service if they choose to. It is a non-contract day for staff.
Thank you, we hope for smooth sailing ahead!
