The Scholarly Beat
October 2022
A Note From Dr. Stewman
Fall is here! I absolutely love transition months. They is just something about the crisp air that makes me smile. I am not a fan of the allergies that come with it, but that is usually short-lived. I just know that ragweed is not my friend!
Over the past week teachers, parents and students have been involved in student led or student involved conferences. It has been a joy to see everyone's smiling faces. There are so many celebrations. Every child brings strengths to their learning. It is our job to find that strength and use it to help build in the areas they are weaker. As our mission states ... High levels of learning for ALL!
During September and October the Student Support Team and classroom teachers gave math and literacy assessments to students regarding phonemic awareness, phonics, reading and foundational math skills. The identified interventions or extensions started on Monday. This time occurs throughout the day based on your child's need. Time has been built into the daily schedule to ensure that we provide EVERY child with the appropriate intervention or extension in reading and math to achieve at high levels. This means that every minute of the day is important. We begin these times as early as 7:45 and go throught until 3:00. Please make sure you child is at school by 7:45 and (unless an emergency) not picked up before 3:00 p.m. We know issues arise, but if you child is here consistently, they will get the support they need.
I mentioned this last month, but since we have not met yet, I wanted to give one more chance for you to be involved. Last year our School of Innovation Proposal was accepted at the Arkansas Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. When we were devising a plan we formed a council of students, teachers, community members, and parents. If you are still interested in serving or are interested in joining the council, please complete this brief form. There will be very few meetings, which can be face to face or virtual. We value your voice!
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to call or email me (rstewman@sdale.org) or Mrs. Hennarichs (lhennarichs@sdale.org). We are here to help make your child's educational experience the best it can possibly be!
