Cookies Hotel vs Puppy Paws Hotel

The James family is going on vacation for 2 weeks. Their dog Sweetie needs a place to stay. All the family members start looking for places Sweetie can stay. They all decide to choose either Cookies Hotel or Puppy Paws Hotel. They did a bit of research to which one is better. Here is their solution.

Cookies Hotel offers a flat rate of \$30 plus \$4 for every day your dog stays.

Puppy Paws Hotel offers a flat rate of \$25 plus \$5 for every day your dog stays.

Let's make two equations:

Cookies Hotel: C = 4x + 30

Puppy Paws Hotel: C = 5x + 25

The x's in the equations represent how many days the dogs stay at each of the hotels and C represents the total cost.

If you want to see where the POI ( Where the two costs are the same) there is a very simple way!!!

4x + 30 = 5x + 25

30 = 5x = 4x + 25

30 - 25 = x

5 = x

This means that when a dog stays for 5 days at each Hotel the cost will be the same.

Concluding Statement

Until the POI which is 5 days Puppy Paws Hotel is better because they cost less. Whereas after the POI Cookies Hotel is better.
