HSB Student: Congrats to 9th grade HSB student, Lizzeth Maldonado for being selected as a finalist in Kitchen Dog Theatre's P.U.P fest. Playwrights Under Progress is an annual competition for high school students throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Lizzeth was the only 9th grader selected. Her play will be featured in a professional staged reading along with four other finalists from campuses such as Booker T. Washington, Bryan Adams, and Thomas Jefferson.
Lizzeth's play, "Being Honest" is a one-act drama about a young woman who has to come clean about a lie she's been telling her father. It's funny, endearing, bold, and demonstrates great plot structure.
Lizzeth's show will premier on Saturday June 13, 2015. There will be two shows: 1pm and 4pm at the McKinney Avenue Contemporary 3120 McKinney Avenue - Dallas, TX 75204. Start your summer by supporting Lizzeth's work. She's a well-deserved published playwright! Tickets can be purchased at www.kitchendogtheatre.org
Front Office Note: Parents, all payments in the Front Office must be made with cash or money order. They cannot accept checks or credit cards. Thank you for your understanding!
Lunch Accounts: Beginning Monday, May 18th, students who have a negative balance on their breakfast/lunch account will no longer be allowed to receive a breakfast/lunch. You may pay the balance and put money on your child's account via the online parent portal or in the Front Office paying with cash or money order. Students will also be allowed to bring money to add to their account or pay for their meal; breakfast is $0.30-reduced and $1.65-paid, lunch is $0.40-reduced and $3.00-paid. Students with unpaid balances will not be allowed to participate in any extra-curricular activities (field trips, field day, end of year class parties, etc.
Fall 2015 7th Graders: If your student will be a 7th grader this coming fall they need to make sure they have had their Tdap Booster and MCV shot after their 11th birthday. You will also need to give an updated shot record to our Nurse by May 25, 2015.
Note from Nurse Carmen: It’s the end of the year and many students have out grown their uniform pants. Nurse Carmen does not have enough extra uniform pants. Please go through and any uniform pants that your child does not fit into donate them to Nurse Carmen. Thank you!
Athletic Field Donations: We have added a link on the HSB website for donations for the athletic field. You can still send checks to the front office, but we thought some might like this option better. Anyone can use this option so please spread this information to any possible donor.
PTO:
Our last PTO meeting of the year will be on Wednesday (5/13) at 6 pm in the cafeteria. There will be several board and committee positions open for next year, so please come out or email me if you're interested in being part of the executive committee next year. It's best for our school when we get some new blood, and fresh ideas and energy each year.
A reminder that Book Fair is going on this week. Our wonderful coordinator, Ms. Fletcher, can always use an extra hand between 2:30 and 4:30 each day, so please stop by and help out, while you stock up on summer reading for your child(ren).
Also please make a note to bring those Box Tops in by end of next week. It's an easy way to get a little extra money for school activities.
Lastly, I goofed up and forgot to send the daily teacher appreciation flyer for last week. While the teachers enjoyed a lunch on Friday and massages on Thursday, those daily notes and pictures from the students are even more precious. To make up for it, let's make the last week of school our own HSB teacher appreciation week. Please look for the flyer in next week’s Wednesday mail. We can end the year reminding our teachers how much they have meant to us.
Harmony School of Business Field Day 2015 Volunteers Needed!
Field Day 2015 is right around the corner! Students in grades K-5 will be participating in a fun day filled with lots of different events. I am looking for 2 volunteers per class to go around and help their child’s class complete events throughout the day. If you would like to be a part of this exciting day with your child please fill out a volunteer form that you can find in the front office or by emailing me. Also, send me an email so I can add your name to the volunteer list for your child’s class.
Remember: All volunteers will be required to bring their Driver License to the front office so that a background check can be ran prior to the event. The background check (if you have not already completed one) needs to be done by May 15th. If it is done after this date you will not be allowed to help. This is for the safety of the students and teachers.
Look forward to seeing you,
Coach Watts

SPRING 2015 BOOK FAIR MAY 13TH – MAY 15TH
Dear Parents and Families:
Reading for pleasure inside and outside of school has real and long-lasting benefits. It unlocks the power of information and imagination and helps children discover who they are. Here’s what you can do to help children develop stronger reading skills and a love for reading:
• Set the example. Let children see you read.
• Have a collection of books in the home. Update this collection routinely to keep pace with changing tastes and reading skills.
• Support our school’s Book Fair. Allow your children to choose their own books to read.
Our Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that brings to school the books kids want to read. It’s a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level. Pleas
