Principal's Note
On Tuesday of this week, we had a safety drill with the help of the district's School Resource Officer and the North Prairie Police. The students were wonderful during the drill! Thank you for following up with discussions at home regarding following directions during these drills. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have questions.
In the last three weeks, teachers have been reviewing the Guidelines for Success at PVES--being respectful, responsible, cooperative, smart, and safe. We have reviewed what those guidelines look like in all aspects of the school - the classroom, lunchroom, bathrooms, hallways, and on the playground. Staff members have also been filling out PAWS slips for positive behaviors. The students have received 248 PAWS slips so far this year! By earning more than 200, they will have an assembly on Thursday, September 27 (Grades K-2 will meet separately from 3-6). The assembly is a fun, interactive anti-bullying assembly called "Count on Me." We are proud of the good behaviors happening around Prairie View and hope that the anti-bullying assembly will help to address student behaviors that need to be worked on this year.
Cell Phone (and other electronic devices) Policy
Please keep in mind the following PVES policy involving cell phones:
Please reach out if you have a need for your child to bring a phone to school. Otherwise, they should not be in the building or out on the bus.
Specials Report - Library Time
My name is Laura Fischer, and I am Mrs. Perkin’s substitute until the end of November. I am very excited to have the opportunity to spend time at Prairie View. I can tell that so many of the children at PVES enjoy reading and the love for books starts at home. Please be sure your child is reading their library books and returning them, so they can check out a new book every week.
During library time we have been discussing the importance of handling our books with care. We also talked about it being easier to find books we need if we keep our library neat and organized.
Here are a few tips and ideas to encourage reading:
-Let them hold the book as you read
-Allow them to turn the pages
-Invite them to finish the sentences if reading with you
-Point to the words as your read so they associate words with reading
-Model reading in front of your child
-Go to the library
-Encourage them to read the pictures and talk about them
-Read the same 2-3 books every day for a wee, then switch
-Read to them daily
-Designate a “reading time” where the whole family sits down to read
-Allow them to choose books
-Talk about the book after reading them
-Be excited about reading with your child- It is contagious
