Weston Newsletter
May/June 2019
The school year is closing down on us...
Time certainly flies! It seems like just a few days ago we were welcoming new kindergarteners and our veterans started their 1st grade year. Here we are in May with our Weston Wonder's working hard, getting ready to move on to their next experience! In yet, before we all move on, it is important to remember the work for the remainder of this year--we still have May and June to work hard and read as many books as we can. We still have May and June to work on math as mathematicians by counting, adding and subtracting.
We are excited about all that the children have accomplished this year. They have grown as readers, writers, mathematicians and thinkers. Just as important, they have grown as kind, considerate and caring young people we can all be proud of.
All the educators at Weston are encouraging students to continue to read, write, and solve math problems with their families this summer. All staff would press upon families to enjoy the summer as we know young students learn through play and hands on activities. Mrs. Goulish and Mrs. Carmack are preparing for extended learning summer school and the summer reading program. Remember, wherever you are over the summer...math and reading can follow!
We will be accepting teacher/classroom requests for next year during the month of May. Forms are available in the office. We do try to honor parent requests whenever possible. However, classroom communities are created by maintaining a balance of gender, age, social behavior, and academics, and that is always considered when placing students as well. If you choose to make a request, please consider using the form to describe your child's personal learning style and needs, rather than naming a specific behavior.
We wish our 1st graders the best of luck as they progress on to Dowdall Elementary in the Fall. We will miss you, but know you will do well with Mrs. Fisher and the Dowdall Diamond Staff. Best wishes!
We look forward to seeing our current kindergarteners as they return to Weston for an awesome 2019-2020 school year. We welcome all the new kindergarteners and their families to our Weston Community.
A special thanks goes to our Weston PTO. They are an awesome group of parents helping to make wonderful things happen at Weston! The Weston PTO is always looking for volunteers to join the group. Please email kpalmer@kearsleyschools.org to contact Kristin about helping the PTO and our AMAZING STUDENTS!
Parents, thanks again for your support and involvement at Weston. You make a difference in your child's success at school. Educating children is a team effort and we appreciate the partnership we have forged with you to help our Weston Wonders succeed. It's amazing what parents and teachers working together can accomplish! Thank you for sharing your child with us!
Have a safe and restful summer!

At Weston, we will celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week May 6-10. Please show our teachers how much they are appreciated!
If you would like to participate, here are some ideas:
Send in on the day-
Monday: Send in pencils to show teachers how "sharp" they are.
Tuesday: Teachers are sweet! Send in a sweet treat like a candy bar.
Wednesday: Teachers help students blossom! Send in a flower.
Thursday: Have a parent write a note to a teacher showing appreciation.
Friday: Have your child write a note of appreciation to his/her teacher.
Kearsley Teachers rock!

Grit Part 3: Our kids need it!
Jenny Williams, a writer for A Fine Parent, shares with us four ways to foster grit with our kids:
1. Find a passion or at least an engaging activity
2. Recognize that frustration, confusion and practice are par for the course
3. Take risks
4. Teach that failure is NOT the end
