Girl Scout Week
Girl Scout Sunday and the Girl Scout Sabbath give girls an opportunity to be recognized as a Girl Scout at their place of worship. Girls may also perform a service, such as greeting, ushering, or doing a flag ceremony. Girl Scout Sunday and Girl Scout Sabbath are also great opportunities for girls to organize a service project or other activity for their congregation or as a way to say 'thank you', if the troop meets at a place of worship, for their support and sponsorship.

Stop Summer Hunger Campaign
One-in-six people in west central Florida live with daily hunger and there are people in our community who won't eat enough over the weekend, during school vacations, or the summer months. These students might be sitting right next to you in class every day without you ever knowing. Find out more about how you can help: click here.
Sunny Palms is partnering with Metropolitan Ministries to provide volunteer opportunities for our troops. Metropolitan Ministries’ minimum age to volunteer is 8, soour younger troops are encouraged to hold a food drive (themed or otherwise) to benefit any food pantry or participate in Channel 10’s summer cereal collection. Saturday, May 7th is a media day at Feeding Tampa Bay to collect the cereal donations.
Metropolitan Ministries dates: Saturday April 16th and April 23rd
Shift times: 8:30 – 11:30 and 12:30 – 3:30 both days
Volunteer spots: Kitchen (age 12+, 15 spots), Food sorting (age 8+, 15-20 spots), clothing sorting (age 8+, 15 spots), environmental services (age 12+, 6-10 spots), special projects (age 8+)
Volunteers needed: approximately 40 per shift
Sign-ups will be available at the Monday, March 7th meeting.

Early Bird Renewal
Mark your calendars...April 15 is the start of Early Bird Registration and renewal for the 2016-2017 membership year! Early Bird (April 15 through June 30) registration gives current Girl Scouts and troops the opportunity to register early for the upcoming Girl Scout year (October 1, 2016 - September 30, 2017) before the fall rush! We will be offering some fantastic incentives to reward our troops' Early Bird efforts. Get in on the excitement and re-register your troop during Early Bird!
Contact: For more information about Early Bird contact your Community Membership Manager, Layne Gregory.
Horseback Riding Activities
We know how popular horseback riding is with troops of all Girl Scout levels. We have recently updated some of our policies regarding riding and want to make sure we share that with all our volunteers. Below is a list of nine stables which have been inspected by GSWCF's Equestrian Manager and adhere to Safety Activity Checkpoints. Girls are allowed to ride at other locations, but if they choose to do so, the troop leader must take responsibility for reviewing the facility themselves and making sure that it adheres to Safety Activity Checkpoints.
Approved Stables List: here.
