NGSX Workshop
Next Generation Science Exemplar
High Quality Professional Development Opportunity in Science
NGSX combines face-to-face work in a study group format. Study group participants, along with guidance from an NGSX facilitator, draw on resources in a web-based environment. This web-based learning environment provides multiple learning pathways for K-12 teachers, instructional leaders, and science coaches. The NGSX model enables study group participants to engage in and analyze three-dimensional (3D) science learning -- learning that draws on the three major dimensions of the NRC Framework and NGSS -- 1) core ideas of science; 2) science and engineering practices; and 3) crosscutting concepts. NGSX provides participants with guided practice in adapting curricular materials to reflect designated NGSS-based student performance expectations.
The focus of NGSX is integrating three-dimensional learning into science classrooms, in which teachers support students in using science and engineering practices to develop, apply, and refine disciplinary and crosscutting ideas. Teachers engage in these practices and investigate cases to explore how to bring these approaches into their own classrooms.
