State of Scituate Schools
State of Education Report
Computer Science and IT Panel at SHS!
Thank you to all of our guests who volunteered to talk to our high school and middle school students today about their careers in Tech! Today was a wonderful opportunity for those students who are interested in exploring computer science and emerging technology careers and college degrees to learn more about the industry!
From AP Government
Our AP Government students had a wonderful visit today from former Rhode Island Congressman David Cicilline! Students asked questions and appreciated the opportunity to hear him share stories about his experiences representing RI for 12 years in the US House of Representatives.
Attendance Matters!
While we understand there are a lot of illness going around Scituate and RI right now, we want to encourage our students to come to school everyday if you are not sick. Currently, 17.4% of Scituate High School are deemed "chronically absent" which is determined as 18% of the school year. We currently rank 96th of all schools in RI for chronic absenteeism. Please come to school if you are not sick... we need you!!
Below are interactive leaderboards and resources for absenteeism from the Commissioner and the Governor.

From the Math Department
Mrs. Dailey’s AP Calculus students applied their knowledge of finding the extreme values of a function to a manufacturing problem. Their task was to construct a box from a 5”x8” index card such that the box would have the maximum possible volume for the given amount of construction material. Students planned and discussed their approaches, and then created the boxes which were then filled with a treat to share.
Academy of Biomedical Science
As part of the biomedical program at Scituate High School, students have the opportunity to be
a part of HOSA - Future Health Professionals. This organization empowers to become leaders
in the global health community and develop leadership and skill competencies. Students have
chosen a project of interest and have been working towards the goal of competing at the HOSA
State Leadership Conference on March 1st. HOSA members have learned a variety of skills
including how to perform CPR effectively, or phlebotomy skills that would allow them insight into
treating patients in a clinical setting. Other teams have explored health careers in depth and
learned about cardiology and what it takes to become a flight surgeon. Still others have led
health education lessons that relay the importance of responding to seizures or utilization of an
AED. No matter what the project, students at Scituate High school are learning about what it
takes to become a dedicated healthcare professional and building the skills needed to excel in
this career pathway.

From the School Nurse
Dear Parents and Guardians,
During fall and winter, we often see increases in rates of respiratory viruses. Respiratory viruses include flu, COVID-19, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and the common cold. Fortunately, many of the same prevention measures help reduce the spread of all these viruses and keep students in school. The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) has asked schools to share the recommendations listed below with the school community.
Get your flu shot. Everyone older than six months of age should be vaccinated against the flu every year. For information on where to get a flu shot, see health.ri.gov/flu.
Cough or sneeze into your elbow.
Wash your hands regularly throughout the day using soap for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol to clean your hands.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces at home, work, and school.
Stay home if you are sick.
Keep children home from daycare or school who have a fever, especially with a cough, congestion, runny nose, or sore throat, until they are fever-free for 24 hours without medications that reduce fever.
If you have COVID-19, isolate for five days and wear a mask through day 10.
Isolation and Precautions for People with COVID-19 | CDC
Be up to date on your COVID-19 vaccinations. For information on how to get vaccinated against COVID-19, see C19vaccineRI.org
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.
