March 4th - 7th
Highlights from our week:
Shared Reading - This week our class read the story Beware of the Cat. This story focused on the misrepresentation of a sign made by the main character concerning the words cat and catch. Students enjoyed listening to all the ways the characters started rumors about a "vicious" cat. Ask your child about how the story ended!
Writing - Our focus for writing has returned to working on personal narratives or stories that have a clear beginning and ending. Student wrote a narrative about the process of going to recess, what they play when they are outside, and how recess ends. Students were challenged to include at least four sentences or more in their narratives.
Social Studies - Our class began the unit on Rocks and Soil this week. Students learned about the three types of rocks: igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary. The investigation continued with observations and sorting of five unique rocks viewed on the SmartBoard. This unit will continue after Spring Break. We ended the week with a lesson about personal space and how best to be aware of our own spacial needs throughout the day.
Math - This week our class worked on splitting whole squares and circles into fractions of one half, one third, and one fourth. Students practiced this by cutting paper shapes and by playing team bingo. Students identified the parts of a fraction that needed to be colored in while also reading and writing the fractions with numbers. Students completed the Unit 5 assessment on Thursday.
