Fall NWEA Student Reports: Arriving HOME today!

Big image

Throughout this school year kindergarten students through fifth grade students will be taking the Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA) Measures of Assessment Program (MAP), which is not associated with the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The NWEA MAP Growth assessment aligns with the Missouri education standards and provides instructional guidance to Park Hill teachers related to Missouri benchmarks. The NWEA is replacing Acuity and STAR assessments that have been used in the past. All Park Hill elementary schools are sharing the Fall NWEA Student Growth Reports with families (in backpack mail) on Friday, November 3, 2017.

NWEA will now be used to provide screening criteria for the gifted qualifying process. Next week, students in grades 4-7 who met screening criteria will receive letters asking for permission to move further in the gifted qualifying process.

{Students in grades 2-3 who qualified for additional testing in the gifted qualifying process completed this testing during the summer and students qualifying attend Bridges now.}

Picture Retakes: November 9, 2017

Picture retakes will be on Thursday, November 9th. Our school's Picture Day ID is KM987005Q1. Please go to for more information.

The Park Hill School District Education Foundation discount card sales program benefits schools and patrons alike. The schools, in conjunction with Major Saver, work with businesses throughout the district to offer a $15 discount card providing the customer with 21 local buy-one-get-one-free offers. In most cases, redeeming only two offers offsets the cost of the card. Proceeds from the card campaign go to the Park Hill School District Education Foundation and participating schools.

Discount card sales occur in the Park Hill schools starting Wednesday, November 1st thru Monday, November 13th.

Major Saver cards can be purchased via cash, check or online at The online sale can be credited back to a particular student and school. All cards purchased online will be mailed directly to the customer.

Major Saver is excited to roll out a new feature this year making online sales easier for friends and family! On our homepage you are able to enter your student’s information to create a CUSTOM LINK for your child that can be shared via social media or email. This link will automatically credit the online sale to your student when friends and family use the link to make their purchase!

Major Saver cards can also be purchased, and credited to a student, through the Major Saver App. Once the free app is downloaded to an Android or iOS device, buyers can choose a Major Saver card through the “buy cards” tab on the app. Once the buyer completes the transaction the offers will be stored in the Major Saver App. Buyers can then redeem offers directly from the app and do not need a physical card.

Park Hill School District Family Survey Window Extension

Dear Park Hill Families,

In the upcoming days, you might receive a request to participate in another survey for the Park Hill School District through a product called Panorama. In case you get the request, I want you to know this is a legitimate survey and we would be very appreciative of your participation.

We are sending Panorama a random sample of half of our students, families and staff this year. Next year, we will administer all of our annual district surveys through Panorama. This tool allows us to get better feedback from our customers and use the data to help our students. Panorama's family survey measures topics such as family engagement, school climate, school fit, barriers to engagement and school safety. All of your responses are confidential and remain anonymous.

This survey window has been extended and will be open through November 10. Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Questions? Please contact me at or check out

Thank you,

Dr. Mike Kimbrel

Our Eagle Events Team has finalized the details of our Career Share focus for the 2017-2018 school year. Career Share classroom visits allow our eagles to learn more about the jobs that adults have in our English Landing community and introduces them to careers they might not even know exist.

This year we would like to have EVERY student have at least ONE parent or family member spend time in his/her classroom in a Career Share visit. We started the Guys and Gals approach years ago and feel that it isn't about the gender separation but instead about EVERY student having a parent or family member visit the classroom sometime during the school day.

If you would like to sign up for a November Career Share please see the below links for each grade level. We will continue to publish a Career Share calendar link each month to help meet the goal of EVERY eagle having at least one parent or family member visit for a Career Share during the 2017-2018 school year. Thanks!

At the end of the school year, we will host a DONUT celebration because we know for some eagles (young and old) the DONUT treat was a key component to our Career Share program in past school years as it gave us all a chance to spend some additional time together before the school day started. Instead of having this DONUT celebration in the gym, we will host this in every grade level hallway so ALL eagles will receive a morning treat. Family members will be encouraged to join us in this Career Share Celebration in May.

Repeat: Media Center Needs Your Help!

The media center needs your help! We are asking for volunteers throughout the months of October and November to update our 8,000 library books! We are working to replace the green dots that designate reading levels with new and improved labeling that meets our 21st century learning goals and current classroom practices. Please contact Kitchell Schneider ( if you are interested in helping.

Thank you!

Repeat:MISSING Student Badge Process

Dear English Landing Families,

Once again students are utilizing student badges to be used daily at English Landing to access each student’s breakfast and lunch account, check out library books, and monitor daily student bus transportation. Because of all the components involved with the student’s badge, each student is required to wear his/her student badge to and from school each day.

English Landing students will be issued two badges free of charge; however, if a student misplaces or loses his/her badge after receiving the first two free badges, there will be a fee of $5.00 for each additional badge issued. If a student misplaces or loses this second badge, a $5.00 fee will be charged for each additional badge issued. We will automatically replace a student’s badge as this is needed each day, however, the badge will remain at school until the replacement fee is received.

Each English Landing student also received an English Landing “break away” lanyard (provided with PTA funds) when issued his/her student badge. Students will not be permitted to trade this English Landing lanyard for another lanyard.

Please let your child’s classroom teacher or me know if you have any additional questions.

Dr. Kerry Roe

REPEAT: Park Hill School District Volunteer Process

Volunteers are important to the success of the Park Hill School District, and we appreciate their service to ourschools. In order to keep our children safe, all volunteers who might ever be around students without an employee present must be screened, starting in August 2014.

Volunteers who have passed the screening process will be re-screened three years from their screening date.

If you have questions about the volunteer screenings, contact Cindy Small, (816) 359-6817.

  • If a volunteer will be alone with students in order to facilitate smaller groups on a field trip or in the school, that volunteer must be screened.

  • If an unscreened volunteer will be on a field trip, that volunteer must stay with a district employee.

  • Sitting with a student outside the classroom is unsupervised volunteering, even though staff members might walk through regularly. These volunteers must be screened.

  • Unless the volunteer who works with students will stay with an employee at all times, the volunteer must be screened.

  • Screened volunteers may not supervise unscreened volunteers. Unscreened volunteers must stay with a district employee.

  • District employees have the right to refuse the services from any volunteer.

  1. The screening forms are available on this page, under the volunteer forms section.

  2. The volunteer will fill out a screening form for us to submit for a request for child abuse or criminal neglect records from the Missouri Department of Social Services.

  3. The volunteer will sign a form indicating that he or she agrees to all our volunteer rules and agrees to be rescreened every three years.

  4. The school will send the forms to the Communication Services department at the district office.

  5. The Communication Services department will submit the request for child abuse or criminal neglect records to the Missouri Department of Social Services and check to make sure the volunteer is not on the sex offender registry.

  6. The Communication Services department will notify the building of the results when the screening is complete. It can take up to two weeks for the screening to go through.

*If the volunteer or a building staff member isuncomfortable submitting the screening form, which includes thevolunteer’s social security number, through the district interofficemail, the volunteer may bring the form to the district office and turn it in directly to the Communication Services staff. We will keep allforms in a secure location.
