Loggerhead Letter

November 2022

From the Desk of Dorsey

Loggerhead Families,

Wow! I am blown away by your generosity and support of our first annual Color Dash. That was such a fun, special day for our students, and because of you, we were able to raise over $90,000 for our school. I can't wait to share with you all the ways we will use these funds to support our students. Most importantly, our students spent a week showing kindness to each other, and it warmed my heart to see so many "kindness splats"!

We know November brings the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, but we are looking forward to being able to give back to those in our community that are in need. We are partnering with Lowcountry Orphan Relief for our annual Grateful and Giving project. More information will be attached to this newsletter, and in the PTA Updates below. We look forward to continuing our acts of kindness with students through this project.

I appreciate your help and patience as we transitioned to new bus routes for most of our students. First View and CCSD made these route changes, and we appreciate you communicating with the teachers to make sure we got our kiddos home safely. Our buses are arriving on time in the morning, so we encourage you to utilize those routes in the morning, if your schedule allows. On that note, we are seeing a large number of students that are tardy in the morning. Please know that if you arrive after 7:30, you must get out of your car and sign in your student, and they will be considered tardy. If you have any questions regarding tardies or attendance, please contact Mr. Sims.

Parents, please see the message below from Strawbridge regarding Fall Pictures. Don't forget our makeup pictures are on Wednesday, November 2:

Parents should follow the instructions in the email sent by Strawbridge. If you did not receive an email from Strawbridge then email your child’s teacher to get your online proof code. Then go to www.strawbridge.net and enter the FM code provided. Parents with multiple children will have multiple emails and have to order them separately. School pictures will be sent directly to the students home. Strawbridge Customer Service Department is also prepared to assist families. The best option is to do an online chat. This is their busy time so the wait time is a little longer than normal both with online chats and via phone. 866-624-6229 will be the longest wait time.

Finally, the best way to ensure your child is going home in the afternoon correctly is to communicate changes in dismissal with handwritten notes in your child's folder first thing in the morning. Please do not email a change in dismissal to teachers. There are two reasons for this! First, teachers do not have time throughout the day to check their email. Second, there might be a substitute in your child's room without access to email. Sending an email that may not been seen during the day will result in your child being dismissed their regular way.

I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving, and thanks for all of your support!

Sincerely,

Ms. Dorsey

PTA Updates

Loggerhead Families!

The PTA cannot thank you enough for your participation and support during the first annual Color Dash fundraiser! We are overjoyed with the funds raised and how much will be staying in the school vs paying out close to half to another company. In total, we raised $91,347 but netted $85,348 due to credit card processing fees & the initial website build.

The Loggerhead Advisory Board and PTA Board will be meeting in the coming weeks to finalize how to best distribute the funds. Every update will go out in the monthly room parent email so you are staying up-to-date on what upgrades are being made. Photos of completed projects will be posted on social media and shared via email.

Thank you again for your support! We are looking forward to making the event even better next year!
