Senior Advisor Assignments
Students who self selected an advisor - Self-Selected advisors must complete the Self-Selected Advisor Training. The Advising Program has been communicating via email with your advisor for a few weeks, and we mailed a welcome packet to your advisor. Talk to your advisor to be sure he/she is receiving emails from Cindy Zimmerman, received the welcome packet, has submitted the online advisor application, and has registered to attend one advisor training session. Once your advisor has fulfilled the training requirement, his/her name will display in your portal, and the database will generate a confirmation email.
Students who selected to be assigned to a staff advisor - We've started to confirm assigned advisor assignments. These assignments are based on your school enrollment, so be sure your school's name is current in your Crosby Scholars Student Portal. Once your assignment is confirmed, your advisor's name and email address will display in your portal, and the database will generate a confirmation email.
Students who missed all three spring deadlines to self-select an advisor will be assigned to meet with a staff advisor.
UNC System Extends Test Optional Policy for Fall 2022 Applications
On May 27th, the Board of Governors in the UNC System decided to extend the TEST OPTIONAL policy for the 2021-2022 Application cycle. Students can still submit ACT or SAT test scores to be considered in the admissions process, but they are not required to do so for this upcoming application year.
You can check out all TEST OPTIONAL schools here: https://www.fairtest.org/university/optional
This list includes schools that are temporarily test optional and schools that have been test optional for years.
Join us this summer in our series of Summer Bootcamps focusing on college applications! Since mid-July we have opened up self-paced, on-going academies which include college essay review, mock interviews, and online ACT/SAT test prep. These bootcamps will count toward academy credit. Sign into your portal today to view the dates and sessions we are hosting for this month! All July bootcamps were recorded and will be posted in the Crosby Scholars Student Portal for students to watch.

Finish the Parent FAFSA Agreement
Crosby staff wants to help students accomplish an important step in preparing for college, which is completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Completing the FAFSA is critical, and doing so allows students to establish a financial plan to pay for college. The FAFSA can be submitted beginning in October of the senior year, and with parental consent, we will view its completion status and offer support to your family as needed. The next time parents/guardians log into the Crosby Scholars Parent Portal, they will be prompted to agree to give the Program permission to receive the Finish the FAFSA status for the scholar.
Accepting this agreement will not result in personal financial data being released to the Crosby Scholars Program. Crosby staff members have been working on this initiative for a few years and are very excited to be able to offer this opportunity to the Class of 2022.
If parents/guardians need more information before offering consent, they may contact Ashly Wilson at awilson@crosbyscholars.org or by calling 336.582.0015.
Application Deadlines Defined
As you begin applying to colleges, you will notice that there are different deadlines for when to submit your college application. You can find them below and what each deadline means. Good luck as you embark on application season and decide which option(s) is/are best for you!
Early Action: student applies early and receives a decision well in advance of the institution's regular response date
Early Decision I and II: students make a commitment to their first-choice institution, whereupon if admitted they are required to enroll and must withdraw their applications from other institutions
Restrictive Early Action (also known as Single-Choice Early Action): student can only apply early to one institution, usually their first-choice, but if admitted they are not required to enroll.
Regular Admission: student applies and receives the institution's decision during the regular response date
Rolling Admission: student may apply at any time and application remains open until the institution fills up its' class

Resume Writing for High School Students
Creating a resume can seem daunting to high school students, particularly because "resume" carries the connotation of something needed to apply for a job, and most Crosby Scholars seniors are thinking about applying to college. However, college applications expect you to provide information typically found on a resume, and the tips below are useful in getting started.
- Although you might have little paid work experience, volunteer service can substitute as a reflection of responsibility, commitment, time management, and individual effort. Don't overlook the importance of your role in a big project or as a volunteer over time with a specific agency.
- Make sure that you have created a professional email address prior to listing your contact information on a resume.
- Highlight extracurricular activities in which you were a faithful participant, and share something significant about your role using action verbs.
- List awards and achievements received in high school.
- Include a skills section that emphasizes practical abilities such as web design or photography, along with "soft skills" such as written communication or problem-solving. Think carefully about the qualities that describe you.
