November Update from the Pine Island Superintendent
Happy Thanksgiving, Pine Island Families!
Enjoy this this long weekend with your family, and please don't hesitate to reach out if there is anything that we as a district can support you with.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Veterans Day Programs
Both the elementary and high school Veterans Day programs were appreciated and well attended. Thank you to our Activities Director and Keynote Speaker, Mr. Brian Menk, as well as our amazing musicians! Having so many distinguished local veterans in our buildings was a true privilege.
World's Best Workforce
The World's Best Workforce (WBWF) was developed in 2013 to ensure that school districts in Minnesota enhance student achievement through teaching and learning supports. Schools are required to develop long-term strategic plans that address the following WBWF goals:
- All children are ready for school.
- All racial and economic achievement gaps between students are closed.
- All students are ready for career and college.
- All students graduate from high school
Our Performance Committee met and reviewed our district data and presented to the School Board at our November meeting. See Pine Island's WBWF HERE.
"We Go Round!"
Students are thrilled with our new merry-go-round at the 5-12 building!
Updates
Successful Family Conferences!
K-8 teachers report successful parent-teacher conference data. THANK YOU, families, for your dedication to this important communication. As always, reach out to your child's classroom teacher(s) for further information.
Goodhue Co. K-9 Dogs Continue Their Training
Perhaps you saw a few Goodhue County Sheriff's vehicles in our parking lot this week. Deputy Jim Goham (with "Valor") and Deputy Mike Ayres (with "Halo") visited our 5-12 building to allow Valor and Halo an opportunity at additional training with their ability to detect illegal substances. Valor and Halo came up empty, which is excellent news for us! School Resource Officer Cody gave our building a "thumbs up"!
2024-2025 Calendar
The work has begun! Our Calendar Committee met to begin discussion about next year's calendar. Note: For the first time in many years, we do not have the required construction to begin before Labor Day. We legally need to start on September 3 which puts our final day of school in early June. Variables that change the end date would be Spring Break, MEA, and professional development days. Our committee will be meeting again soon to discuss these details. Once the 2024-2025 Calendar is approved by the School Board, we will release the information. CURRENT CALENDAR: 2023-2024 Calendar
What about SNOW DAYS?
Inclement Weather: We Know it's Coming, Like it or Not!
The one constant of living in Minnesota is our changing weather! We're bound to encounter challenging weather sooner or later, so please ensure that your contact information is current, as our weather-related decisions are communicated via phone, texts, and emails. Our local radio and TV stations are alerted, as well as our website, Facebook, and Instagram sites.
NOTE: Our first TWO school cancellation days will be traditional "snow days" and will NOT be replaced with e-learning days. The third and subsequent school closures will be replaced with e-learning days. In special circumstances, I may determine not to designate an e-learning day depending on unique situations. Each building/grade level will notify students of required e-learning guidelines; reach out to your child's teacher if you are unsure of their at-home learning plan.
