The Articles of Confederation was America's first attempt at establishing a new government after The Revolutionary War. The Articles were made to be weak because we did not want another government that could abuse their power.
Articles of Confederation Strengths
The Articles were the first written agreement and constitution of the U.S, they gave congress the power to deal with foreign affairs, declare war, declare peace, and form alliances.
Articles of Confederation Weaknesses
The government had no power to regulate commerce or trade between the states, each state could put taxes on trade between states. National government didn't have power to tax. Revenue comes from states. Couldn't force states to obey its laws and taxation was ignored because they could not be enforced. No national army or navy. No national courts. Each state has own paper money
