Attea Flyers
School Newsletter for Parents
For the week of November 2
Hello, Attea families. We hope you had a great week.
This past week...
SEL: Check-ins, Surveys, and Teaching for Success: Our focus on students' social-emotional well being continues. This week students participated in a Panorama survey to assess how they are feeling about school. Teachers also continued to use X Block time to check in with students individually. We also shared with students a video reinforcing important points and tips for being successful at school. Below is a parent version of the video.
The Food Drive Wrapped Up: Thank you for all of the support with the Kids Care Food Drive. We collected a total of 599 items. We also collected a total of $128, which enables the Food Pantry to purchase an additional 640 items. Therefore, Attea's grand total for this year's drive was 1239 items. Way to go!!
A Middle School Costume Parade: On Friday we had the interesting combination of a Halloween costume day with Drill Day. This meant that students participated in lockdown, fire and bus evacuation drills while in costume. It became a sort of an unexpected middle school costume parade. :-) The kids were awesome throughout, and it was great to see so many of them dressed up.
Next week...
Daylight Savings Time: Remember to turn your clocks back on Saturday/Sunday and enjoy an extra hour of sleep.
No School on Monday or Tuesday: It is a shorter week with no school on Monday (an Institute Day) and no school on Tuesday (Election Day). We'll see students again (remotely) on Wednesday. Please be sure to read the travel guidelines information below.
MAP Reports: Testing wrapped up this week and Student Reports will be sent home electronically next Friday.
Have a safe and happy long weekend. Go Flyers!!
Long Weekend and Travel Restrictions
As we begin another long weekend, we want to remind families again about the District's safety protocols related to travel. If you are going out of town, have a wonderful time. However, please be aware of the latest information from the Cook County Department of Public Health Travel Guidance site.
If families travel to any of the states on the list and remain in the state for more than 24 hours, there would be a need for students to quarantine at home for two weeks prior to returning to school.
Video Contest for Students
CHARACTER COUNTS! in Glenview is proud to kick off this year's video contest. Students in fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grades are invited to create a 1-2 minute video that features any one or all of the Six Pillars of Character: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship.
Specific information and rules for the contest can be found here: 2020 Video Contest. You can find general Information on the Character Counts website. Also on the website is a 1-minute instructional video about the contest and links to see winning video entries from previous years.
The Video Contest Entry Form also contains information and instructions.
The deadline for entries is 11:59 p.m. on November 30. First, second, and third-place winners in two categories – 5th-6th and 7th-8th – will be recognized and awarded cash gift cards generously donated by the Kiwanis Club of Glenview-Northbrook at the January 19, 2021 Village Board of Trustees meeting.
"On November 20th, we are giving up our beds for one night so young people can sleep safely at Covenant House."
Participants will be sleeping in places other than their normal beds to better understand and support homeless teens. Last year's events were a great success in raising awareness, bringing the Attea community together, and generating funds for Covenant House. This year's event seeks to continue the caring spirit.
