A Note from the School Counselors
Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) is a program that allows public and nonpublic students in 10th, 11th, and 12th grades to earn college credit while still in high school, through enrollment in and successful completion of college nonsectarian courses at eligible postsecondary institutions. Students generate both college credit and high school credit by successful completion of the course. Most PSEO courses are offered on the campus of the postsecondary institution; some courses are offered online. Each participating college or university sets its own admissions requirements for enrollment into the PSEO courses. Eleventh and 12th-grade students may take PSEO courses on a full- or part-time basis; 10th-graders are eligible to enroll in PSEO on a more limited basis. Students must meet the PSEO residency and eligibility requirements and abide by participation limits specified in Minnesota Statutes, section 124D.09.
For more information visit https://www.spps.org/domain/11038
Students interested in applying for PSEO for next school year should meet with their School Counselor.
Saint Paul College is hosting virtual PSEO information sessions. Go to https://saintpaul.edu/pseo to register for an upcoming session.

Celebrating Black History Month
Black HERstory-Mary McLeod Bethune
Pioneering educator Mary McLeod Bethune founded the Daytona Educational and Industrial School for Negro Girls in 1904 with just $1.50. The first class had six students and supplies were so meager when the Florida school was founded that students made ink for pens from elderberry juice and pencils from burned wood. Twenty years later, it became Bethune-Cookman College. Born in 1875 to former slaves, Bethune also founded the National Council of Negro Women in 1935. She became one of the first African Americans to advise a U.S. President when she served as Franklin D. Roosevelt's Minority Affairs adviser. In 1936, Roosevelt appointed Bethune the director of the National Youth Administration's Division of Negro Affairs, making her the first African American woman to head a federal division. Upon her death in 1955, columnist Louis E. Martin honored Bethune's immense impact in touching many lives, stating: "She gave out faith and hope as if they were pills and she some sort of doctor."
To introduce children to her incredible legacy, we highly recommend the book "Mary McLeod Bethune" for ages 6 to 9 at https://www.amightygirl.com/mary-mcleod-bethune
