Message from Principal Wenz

Dear Leeds Caregivers,

Mr. Foster captured this picture of our school Thursday morning.

Thank you to Ms. Michaud, our Music teacher, we will be having two music concerts. These are our first concerts in a very long time. It is wonderful to hear our students prepare for these concerts.

  • Our Kindergarten through Grade 2 concert will be on Friday, February 3rd @9:00am in our cafeteria.
  • Grades 3 through 5 will perform on Friday, March 24th at 9:00am in our cafeteria.
  • Families are welcome to join us for these concerts. Please attend the concert your child will be performing.

Through the Northampton Education Foundation, we have a grant to work with Tiffany Jewell. This year the focus is Empowering Youth: How to be Anti-racist. Tiffany had the opportunity to meet with teachers this fall. Last week, she began working with some of our students. This month, Ms. Jewell is sharing the book called "To Change a Planet" written by Christina Soontornvat. Due to the delay last Friday and our snow day today, we have to reschedule some of our classes. Please see below for more of a description of our work together.

As part of our District Improvement Plan, we are collecting surveys from caregivers about Leeds Elementary School. Last year approximately 100 caregivers completed the survey. This year we have some families who have participated. Please complete the survey, as we use your feedback and input to improve our school each year. The survey information is listed below.

Our students are currently taking their winter benchmark assessments. Report cards will come home on Friday, February 3rd.

We are trying to have Girls on the Run this Spring at Leeds. Unfortunately, last fall we did not have coaches for this program to run. Please see flyer below. If you are interested in coaching please email Molly Hoyt (Molly.hoyt@girlsontherun.org) or call Molly at (413) 320-1845.

With Kindness,
Chris Wenz, Principal

Leeds’ fifth-grade classes are still collecting winter gear for those in need in Ukraine, supporting the International Rescue Committee and continuing to collect Personal Care Items for Northampton Survival Center.

Snow Expectations

Students are able to play in the snow at recess. We have sleds for students to use. We do have the following expectations:

  1. In order to play in the snow, students must have snow boots, snow pants, coat, hat/hood, mittens/gloves.
  2. Students who have only boots or their shoes for school will be on our black top places on the playground.
  3. Students walk on all black top surfaces as they can be slick.
  4. Students are able to access our pavilion area.

If you need assistance in getting snow pants or boots, please let your child's teacher or Ms. Bastek (sbastek@northampton-k12.us or 413-587-1535) know. If you have snow clothes or boots that are too small for your child, please consider donating them to our school for others to use.

NPS Caregiver Survey 22-23

The Northampton Public Schools District Improvement Plan (DIP) states that “the Northampton School District is a community of learners committed to equity and the success of each student. The principle of equity goes beyond formal equality where all persons are treated the same. Instead, equity fosters an inclusive and barrier-free environment in which everyone will fully benefit.” Family student engagement is an integral part of equity in our district and a shared responsibility. When families, communities and schools work together, students are empowered and the entire community benefits.

Northampton Public Schools would love to hear about your family and the relationship you have with the school your child attends.

Your responses will be kept confidential. The information collected in this survey will be aggregated and shared with school administrators and Action Teams without your email and name attached, in order to support strengthening family engagement both across the district and within each school.

After completing the survey, you will be directed to fill it out for additional children if applicable.

Thank you for sharing your experience!

Here are the survey links to send to families in your electronic communications

All responses are recorded on a master spreadsheet that then can be aggregated by school. Each survey for a language other than English has their own response spreadsheet.
