Carruth House
Whangarei Boys' High School - December 2015
Happy Christmas to you all and farewell to some
It was wonderful to see so many Carruth juniors receive prizes and awards at their prizegiving. Keep it up!
At the end on November we had a sleep over for the Year 9s in 2016. It was a great time of familiarising themselves with their new environment for next year. They also had the opportunity to get to know each other and the staff as well.
Our junior Christmas dinner was a wonderful evening. Thanks to Miss Kiri for decorating the dining hall, Miss Tania for making the deserts and the gifts for the boarders and Miss Sue for yet again, another awesome meal. NZ lamb with mint sauce is hard to beat followed by strawberries with ice cream in a chocolate bowl!
We like our community service in Carruth House. Hayden from Sea Cleaners got in touch with me and spoke to the boys about the plight of trash in the oceans and how it is affecting the marine life. We mustered a van of boys to help clean up a small portion of Whangarei Harbour. We picked up 165kgs of trash in 1 hour. Well done boys!
It is a bit sad this time of year as we always say goodbye to a few. Whether it's off to tertiary education or employment in the workforce we wish them all the best. However, we always enjoy the trickle to ex-boarders who return to see Carruth House and the staff. Everybody is always welcome to visit at any time.
It comes down to me now to wish you all a very Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year. Do keep safe, be careful in the sun and have a restful time.
