Why Does the Tower of Pisa Lean?
Why Does the Tower of Pisa Lean?
When they were building the Tower o Pisa, they didn't know the ground was soft. Once, they had built three stories it sunk because they was not enough grounded. The tower is located in Italy, Europe.
On the tall side it is 56.70 m. The lower side is 55.86 m. Every year the Pisa continues to lean 14 feet vertical South. Construction was stopped for almost 100 years, as Pisa fought wars against Genoa, Lucca and Florence. By the time Galileo Galilei is said to have dropped a ball from the top of the tower in the late 16th century. It had moved about 3 degrees off vertical. The top of the tower was moving back and forth for around 1.2 millimeters a year.
A lot people take pictures of themselves pushing the tower.
This is the tower at night.
