Roadrunner News

California is currently under a travel advisory. A reminder from our Guidebook for Reopening: If your family is considering travel at this time or planning a trip, please review this important information from the CDC. We appreciate your support in reducing exposure to students and staff.

Dear Westwood Families,

Believe it or not, we are about to wrap up our first trimester of school! As we head into the Thanksgiving holiday, I am so grateful for all of the support from our families and staff as we continue to navigate this unusual time.

As mentioned in the email you received earlier today from the District, we are providing families with a window to reassess the learning model for your children.

Please fill out the form below ONLY if you are interested in a change of learning model for your child. If you want your child to remain in their current placement, you can disregard this communication. Please fill out a separate form for each elementary-aged child. This form is NOT for middle or high school students. Secondary sites will communicate separately.

Any requested changes will be dependent upon staffing and seat availability. This does not mean we are reorganizing all of our classrooms again, rather, evaluating requests on a case by case basis to determine seat availability. Any changes made will take place beginning January 4, 2021, after the winter break.

The form closes on Sunday, November 29, 2020 at 11:59pm. Again, please fill it out ONLY if you are interested in a change of learning model.

Westwood Elementary Learning Model Reassessment

Principal

November 15, 2020

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Our first trimester of learning will end on November 20, 2020. Due to the change in our school year and learning models, our conference week will look different than in past years. Normally, teachers meet with each students' parents/guardian to discuss academic, work habits, and behavior progress during the first trimester of learning. However, this year, teachers will be conducting a limited number of conferences on Monday, December 7th, via Zoom meetings. Students who are meeting or exceeding standards may not necessitate a conference at this time. December 7, 2020 will be a non-student day and students will not attend school on this day.

In order to maintain the routines and learning in the AM/PM and VLA model, we will not be providing minimum days during conference week as we have done in the past. Since there is only one day designated for progress report conferences, teachers will only be able to meet with a limited number of students. For those students not receiving a conference, teachers will include comments on the progress report. All students’ progress reports will be available on December 9 via ParentVUE in Synergy. Directions for accessing the progress report via Synergy will be forthcoming.

Thank you for your support and understanding.

Sincerely,

Jennie Mikels

Principal

Westwood Elementary Foundation

The Foundation needs you to volunteer. We need several board positions to be filled to continue to operate.

We are currently looking for a Secretary, Director of Special Events, Director of the Dining for Dollars program, Director of Community and Donor outreach, Director of Social Media/ Electronic Outreach and more volunteers to help plan and coordinate special events, Dining for Dollars and many other activities.

We’ve operated for years with a very small group of volunteers who have done a lot of amazing things. Currently, though, we don’t even have enough Board Members to operate per our legal charter.

We need the above board positions and four additional volunteer positions to be filled before the end of December.

If you are interested in keeping the Foundation operating then email wwefpresident@gmail.com
