Message from the Principal:
With a great excitement, I can officially confirm that we are set to expand our in-person instruction on Monday, February 1! You should have received a letter from us this week indicating which cohort your child will be in specifically. You can see a copy of a generic version of that letter below. It is important to note that any requests to move from a remote cohort to an in-person cohort will not be entertained until the end of the 3rd marking period; the deadline for switching has passed.
In addition to offering students four days of in-person instruction, we are adding a social-emotional themed homeroom to the day. This changes our bell schedule by 10 mins; you can find this in the letter as well.
We are also offering a mid-year credit recovery program for students who are struggling academically. This eight-week intervention will allow students to improve their grades from the first two marking periods. If you have a child who could benefit from such a program, please contact Mr. Dobbins, our high school Assistant Principal. He can be reached at 856-853-0123 ext. 228 or ddobbins@woodburysch.com.
Contactless water stations have been purchased and installed around the school. These filtered stations allow students to fill up their own water bottles and grab a quick drink in the hallways.
Finally, I wish to congratulate our January Students of the Month! These excellent students have stood out from their peers in such positive ways that they have been recognized by their teachers for the award. Please join me in celebrating them and their families! We are so proud!
Have a great weekend!
In partnership,
Dr. Vivadelli

7th Grade Literacy with Mrs. Emenecker
Mrs. Emenecker’s students had a busy week. On Tuesday in Writer’s Workshop, students celebrated publishing their realistic fiction pieces. Normally, printed stories are spread around the room and students walk with sticky notes leaving compliments on their classmates’ work. We found a virtual way to do this so that all students, remote and hybrid, could celebrate at a safe distance. We used Padlet, a virtual bulletin board, to post our stories. Students then opened each other’s stories, read them and left positive comments sharing one element of their classmates’ story they thought was well written. At the end students were able to look at all of the compliments listed under their story.
On Thursday and Friday in Reading, students wrapped up the work they have been doing on identifying theme in various texts. We ended by analyzing the poetry of Amanda Gorman, the poet who recited her work at the inauguration Wednesday. Student’s first watched a short video clip to learn about Amanda Gorman and how she worked to become the poet she is today. We then listened to one of her poems and analyzed it for theme. They then went to a Google Doc the entire class shared and added their theme and evidence to the class chart. Students could then read through their classmates’ themes, select ones they agreed with and write why they agreed with them. Friday, students listened to Amanda Gorman perform her inaugural poem “The Hill We Climb.” While she read they highlighted lines from the poem they felt hinted at a theme. They then completed an exit ticket by writing a theme statement and pasting in lines from the poem that showed evidence of their theme.
