Beginning of the Year Assessments
During this week and next week, our students are working on their beginning of the year benchmark assessments. The program we use is called Progress Learning. It has assessments for ELA/Reading, Math, Science and Social Studies. These measure how well our students perform on the grade-level MIssouri Learning Standards. The results give us data about which standards our teachers need to target and helps us know which students need support in specific areas. Please encourage your child to do his or her best so the data we have is accurate and valid!
BMS Cheer T-Shirt Fundraiser
Our BMS Cheerleaders are selling t-shirts as a fundraiser. Forms will be sent home with students this week. Contact Mrs. Vandiver at cvandiver@bps14.org with any questions!
Quarantines/Homebound Procedures
Currently, only students who are positive for Covid-19 must quarantine. These students who are positive will be placed on Homebound for 5 days from the start of symptoms. If the student feels well enough to Google Meet into their classes, they may do that and be counted "present" for attendance purposes. Please call our office at 568-4283 if you have any questions about these procedures.
BMS House System
On Friday, August 26, we held our 2nd Annual BMS House Sorting Ceremony! For families new to our building, we utilize a House System as a way to bring all of our students together. Everyone in our building is in a House. Each House has traditions, history, and principles they stand for. Our four Houses are:
- ALTRUISMO, the House of Givers
- AMISTAD, the House of Friendship
- ISIBINDI, the House of Courage
- REVEUR, the House of Dreamers
Our House System gives EVERYONE a group to be a part of. We compete against each other to see which House can earn the most points each week, quarter, and for the whole year. Students earn points for academic achievements, attendance, following our building expectations, good character, and school spirit (joining a club or sport, attending sporting events, etc). The competitions can be very close and exciting!
EVERY Wednesday is HOUSE SPIRIT DAY! We all wear our House color and sit with our House members to eat lunch. Students will receive their House shirts for this year soon. We have a House meeting once a month with a lesson about our monthly character trait, and then we also have House competitions with team-building activities once each month. The lessons and games are led by our House Leaders, who are 8th grade students selected to lead their Houses for the year.
