Math in Focus in Action!

Kindergarten

In kindergarten, children are learning and exploring numbers with concrete, pictorial, and abstract methods. They are being encouraged to practice using their fingers to represent quantities. We are matching, counting, and forming numbers correctly. We are noticing that numbers are everywhere.

First Grade

First grade is using manipulatives and math talk to solve our "engage" problem.

Second Grade

Second grade students are having a ton of fun with Math in Focus! They have enjoyed learning from Math Coach, Mrs. Foster and working together to use base ten blocks to count on by 100s, 10, and 1s.

Third Grade

Third grade students partnered to use base-ten blocks and place value strips to find place value during this hands-on activity.

Fourth Grade

Fourth grade students exploring place value to 100,000 using manipulatives.

Fifth Grade

Fifth graders use place value chips to explore how to multiply numbers by 10s, 100s, and 1000s.

Sixth Grade

Sixth grade students completing bar modeling practice with the help of our math coach, Mr. Lechniak.

Box Tops for Education

Have you downloaded the new Box Tops for Education app yet? Scan your store receipts for instant credit! Box Tops has recently added the ability to assign your scanned receipts to your child’s classroom count! Make sure you have the most recent version of the app; scan your receipt; look for the star at the bottom that says CREDIT; type in your child’s teacher’s last name (e.g. HENRY). Going forward, the app will autofill your teacher entry. If you have multiple children, you can edit the CREDIT field before saving your entry. To update previous scans, go to My Earnings; click on an entry; give credit; type in your child’s teacher’s last name. Note, you must do this for each previous entry. Please only type in one teacher’s last name per scan. Questions? Check here for more details. Thank you for your patience and support as Box Tops for Education moves to a digital format, and don’t forget that traditional “clip” Box Tops can still be sent in to your child’s classroom.

Author and Illustrator Visits Titus

Bob Shea and Zachariah OHora

Titus Elementary School was excited to have author and illustrator extraordinaire visit with our students in K through 3rd grade. Mr. Shea and Mr. OHora shared their latest book, answered questions, and demonstrated how to draw their latest character from their book. Thank you for visiting Titus and we cannot wait to read more of the duo's amazing books.
