Notes from Dr. Irvin
Your Weekly eNews for February 25
Hello Parents and Guardians,
We hope that you have been able to connect with staff for conferences this week. Please reach out if you need additional time or time windows to your student’s teacher or any of our administrative team to support that process. Additionally, I hope you have helped us by responding to a recent survey sent out by the district to better understand how schooling is going this year and how you may be thinking about schooling options next year. As we are approaching a transition from Term 3 to Term 4, we are working to consider what our final months of the year may look like. Safety during a longer school day and lunch are part of our planning, and we will send future communication if there will be changes.
In gratitude,
Matt Irvin
Congratulations, National Merit Finalists!

Summer School Information
WGHS 2021 Summer School Opportunities/Program Information and Rules
Summer School Session: June 7th - July 9th 2021 Monday - Friday
Registration
The application for WGHS Summer School will open on Monday, March 1, 2021 at 7:30 a.m.
Completing an application does not guarantee enrollment as enrollment is conducted on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that we will be offering online (100% asynchronous) and in-person courses at WGHS for the 2021 Summer School program. Courses with fewer than 15 students will not be offered.
Notification Process
You will receive an email regarding your enrollment status (enrolled or wait listed) by the end of April. If enrolled, a course schedule with teacher information will be mailed home one week prior to the start of summer school with classroom numbers.
Attendance Policy
During the summer session, attendance is most important because of the condensed period in which we have to work. Doctor appointments are unexcused for summer school and count towards absences and tardies.
With this in mind, the following attendance regulations have been adopted:
A student may not accumulate more than 3 absences in a class.
Any students arriving after the start of a class (5 minutes) will be considered tardy.
Any students leaving prior to the end of class (less than 30 minutes) will be considered tardy.
Any student arriving/leaving more than 30 minutes after the start/end of a class will be given an absence for the class even if he or she remains/stays the rest of the class period.
Three (3) tardies to a class will be equal to one absence.
Any student exceeding the three (3) absences for a class will receive a grade of “F” for the class and will be withdrawn from the class with no credit.
Any student who is withdrawn from a class after three (3) days of summer school will be issued and “F” for the specified class.
PE - Students will be graded on attendance and participation. Due to the length of summer school classes, please note that if a student sustains an injury while enrolled in PE and needs to miss more than 3 days of class participation due to the injury the student will need to be withdrawn from the summer PE course.
ALL WGHS SCHOOL RULES WILL BE ENFORCED DURING SUMMER SCHOOL
Please note that consequences for discipline issues may be increased due to the short length of summer school. Disciplinary infractions may include withdrawal from summer school. If withdrawn, students will receive no credit for their course(s).

Statesmen Service Awards Update
Spring is coming and so are the annual Statesmen Service Awards!! We understand that this year has not allowed for as many in person volunteer opportunities so we are decreasing the minimum number of hours required to 25 (instead of last year’s 50 hours). So now is the time for your student to take full advantage of their generosity to others and submit their 25+ volunteer hours so they can be honored for their awesomeness!!! Forms are due by 3/18 – just before Spring Break. Forms are in Office 124. Questions? Contact Julie Simonson, Administrative Assistant, (simonson.julie@wgmail.org) or John E. Thomas, Assistant Principal.
Term 3 Important Dates--March 15-April 1
Term 3 Schedule
Did You Know?
If the District calls an "Inclement Weather Day," WGHS students will complete asynchronous learning. In order to meet DESE state-required hours of instructional time, any inclement weather days are to be conducted at WGHS as asynchronous virtual learning days. There will be no live Zooms; rather, teachers will assign work to be done independently. The only exception to this is a "late start" on M, T, TH, or F. See the graphic below for details.
Inclement Weather and School Closing Information
Communication
Should bad weather or other adverse conditions prompt us to consider closing schools, the District will make a decision as early as possible. Information will be available through the following outlets:
- Phone calls to all families through SchoolMessenger
- Local media: KMOV TV (Channel 4), KSDK TV (Channel 5), KTVI (Channel 2) and KMOX radio (AM 1120)
- District website www.webster.k12.mo.us
- Facebook https://www.facebook.com/WebsterGrovesSD
- Twitter @WebsterGrovesSD
Early Dismissal
The Webster Groves School District will consider closing schools early due to emerging weather and/or road conditions that will make it unsafe for children to be dismissed at the regular time. If school is dismissed early, all after school programs and activities, including Adventure Club, will be canceled. Non-district related events will also be canceled (ex: YMCA’s Hoopsters).
Transportation provided by First Student, the Voluntary Interdistrict Choice Corporation, and ZipCare will transport children home at dismissal.
Unless special circumstances exist, the high school will be dismissed at 12 p.m.
Delayed School Start Time
The Webster Groves School District will consider opening schools with a “late start” on inclement days when roads are expected to be cleared within a few hours. This option would keep children, families and staff off the roads during the busy morning rush hour. A late start would mean that all schools would open one hour and thirty minutes later than their usual start times. A quick breakfast would be available for students. Transportation provided by First Student, the Voluntary Interdistrict Choice Corporation, and ZipCare will be scheduled to pick up students one hour and thirty minutes later than their regular pick up times.
All schools and Adventure Club would close at their regular times.
WGHS Delayed Start Time:
Student Arrival Time: 9:10 a.m.
School Start Time: 9:25 a.m.
WGHS Term 3 Blended 4x4 Daily Schedule Delayed Start due to Inclement Weather
This schedule is only applicable in the event of an announcement by the district of an inclement weather delayed start on M, T, TH, or F.
Building opens at 9:10 a.m. for Morning Session
Building opens at 12:30 for Afternoon Session
