Week of November 4th - 8th

A Note From Your Principal

Hi Wonderful McKinley Families,

First, I want to take this opportunity to thank all of our first responders in our wonderful county! I know many of you have loved ones that do these jobs day in and day out. My father served 35 years in the police force and I know the toll that it takes on both the first responders and their families. Please thank them from the bottom of my heart for all of their hard work.

I was able to talk to all staff over the last two days and it was wonderful to hear that everyone on staff at Mckinley is safe. Thank you to all who have reached out. We as a staff know how important it is to return to some normalcy after an event like this. The staff and I have talked about the different ways that they will address the trauma in their classrooms. Linked at the bottom of this email are resources that you can use at home as well.

A few things that went well, the ability to send out social media alerts. At the bottom, I have also put links to all of our social media outlets. We continue to struggle with our email platform but most of you are receiving emails. I will continue to look into ways that we can improve the out going information. I did, however, learn that the REMIND app does not work anymore because our REMIND group is too big. REMIND wants to charge $2000 for groups that have 150 members or more. I believe I found a workaround and hopefully will have an update soon.

The staff and I have agreed that we would like to have a REDO on Halloween. They all had class parties and fun activities planned. Our school parade is one of my favorite times during the year. This Friday, November 8th, we will have HALLOWEEN REDO! Look for a flyer in your Wednesday folder and classroom information sent home by your teachers.

Thank You for being such a wonderful community. The heartwarming stories of volunteers, shelters, housing evacuees and first responders saving entire communities is AMAZING. Stay strong and don’t hesitate to reach out if you need anything. #McKinleySTRONG

I look forward to seeing you all Monday,

Ani Larson

Our first ever Flea Market will take place on November 16 at McKinley. The deadline to sign up for a vendor stand has been extended to Nov 8. Do you bake delicious goods? Have a student that wants to sell collectibles or lemonade? Have items you would like to donate? Learn more about the Flea Market and find out how to set up your stand to sell, donate items or volunteer.

Each participant/ vendor signing up for a table will be able to specify their own suggested donation price for their goods, services, food, etc. Any goods sold by our community families will be their profits to keep (to clarify, this is not a school fundraiser).

In addition, the PTA plans to set up a table of donated items for anyone attending to take what they need, at no charge.

With appreciation

Thank you to Amy’s Drive-Thru and all the families that came out to dine there. We raised $70.56! Unfortunately, we did not meet the minimum number of attendees at CalSkate to receive a donation but we want to thank those of you who came out. We hope you had a great time!

Thank you to Mr. Jackson (7th grade PACS teacher) and Mr. Caamano (6th-grade Teacher)

for running an intramural football league at lunch recess time for the 4th-6th grades. They have given up their own break time to do this!

Thank You Lindsey Fisher for running soccer games at both recess and lunchtime. I appreciate all you do for our kids to have an organized game to play.
