Message From HS Advancement Counseling Team!
Dear Harmony School of Advancement Families and Students,
We just need to say thank you and hope you are able to spend this special holiday with your family and those you are most thankful to have in your lives. As for us here at HSA, what we are most thankful for this year, and for all the ones to come, is you – our students and their families.
We would like to remind all our seniors about the college application submission deadline, for most colleges, which is December 1st, and financial aid (FAFSA/TASFA) application. We encourage our students to complete their college applications before the deadline to avoid any sort of inconvenience.
- Ensure you are submitting a MINIMUM of three (3) college applications! Once you have submitted them, be sure to update your application submission tracker on School Links so we will know it is time to send your documents.
Also, did you know colleges and types of aids operate on a first-come, first-serve basis? Yup! Early FAFSA/TASFA increases your odds of receiving the maximum financial aid for which you qualify.
- Ensure you have completed, signed, and submitted your FAFSA form through Going Merry. You should receive an email within 5-7 days with your Student Aid Report (SAR) that will list your Pell Grant eligibility and your EFC (Expected Family Contribution). Please forward that email to your counselor OR take a screenshot of your SAR directly from the FAFSA website and send it to your counselor. This is proof you have completed the graduation requirement to submit a FAFSA.
So early FAFSA/TASFA = meeting early deadlines = not being last in line.
Instead of scrambling to complete everything at the last minute, you’ll have time to gather and navigate the process without breaking a sweat.
On behalf of all of the HSA Counseling Department, we wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving!
With gratitude,
HSA Counseling Team
CONGRATS TO THE SASS WINNERS!!!
The Student Academic Success Scholarship committee(SASS) would like to congratulate our 6 SASS winners for the upcoming AP/EOC Camp: Elizabeth J., Melody H., Dogukan D., Michelle M., Sally N., and Daniel M.
These students showed outstanding performance during the interview process and had impressive essays making them earn a generous scholarship.
Congratulation guys! Very well deserved. Enjoy the Camp and continue showing excellence every day!
Preparations are underway for the RECF Aerial Drone Competition!
Students learn how to build, program, and fly a drone after school. The club members also learn to safely operate a drone, work as a team, and research workforce applications of aerial robotic technology. The students get hands-on experience in STEM education in the form of an affordable, fast-paced game.
Student members of the Harmony School of Advancement Black Student Union will host a Panel Discussion entitled “Colorism:
It’s Roots, Causes and Links to Mental Health in the Houston Community” at 3:45pm on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 . The panelists include representation from Harris Health System Department of Diversity & Inclusion, Advancement campus parents, local activists and members of the student body.
Students and guests will join the discussion as panelists engage in dialogue about the definition of colorism, its ties to racism and White Supremacy, and its long-term effects on the mental health of the Greater Houston community, specifically adolescents and young adults. Students hope to create a call-to-action of sorts that can be shared with local educational and cultural nonprofits that can enhance their efforts to inform and educate the general public on the effects of colorism on the mental health of young people.
Parents wishing to attend the event can contact Brittane Lewis Venson, at blewis@harmonytx.org.Attendance is by reservation only and is free of charge.

STUDENT ASSISTANCE FORM
As we embark on a new school year unlike any other, we at Harmony recognize the increase in challenges that many of our students and families are facing. As such, if there is any need, for example, a need for food, clothing, mental health support, or if your family is going through a difficult time and it is affecting your child, please let us know.
This year, we are offering parents the means to communicate any non-academics needs to the school through a Student Assistance Form, better known as a SAF. By submitting a SAF, you will be alerting the campus administrators to your child’s needs and will give us an opportunity to provide resources, support, or some form of assistance.
HARMONY GIVES DAY - NOVEMBER 30TH
As you know, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving is Giving Day. Harmony is launching a Texas-wide Giving Day Campaign on all our campuses. For this year, giving day will fall on November 30th.
For any student/parent that donates $25 or more, they will receive a HPS brand Pop It Toy (picture on the flyer is for illustration purposes only). Everyone who donates will be added to a raffle for a Nintendo Switch.
STUDENT ACADEMIC SUCCESS SCHOLARSHIP (SASS)
The Harmony School of Advancement College & Career Counseling (CCC) Department is launching the Student Academic Success Scholarship (SASS). This is a specialized scholarship fund intended for students who have financial needs and want to participate in academic activities such as extracurriculars and competitions.
The first round of SASS funds will be allotted specifically for the upcoming AP/EOC Camp and will cover all costs of the camp for the chosen SASS finalists. Students can apply by picking up an application package from their assigned counselor in the Student Service Center in room 301 and submitting all materials by the deadline.
The CCC Department hopes to encourage students to take part in this exciting activity by providing scholarships to those students who otherwise would not be able to attend. If you would like to be a donor to this scholarship fund and assist Advancement students in being able to participate in activities, please visit the Advancement web page, click on RevTrak and add "SASS donation" in the notes.
For more information on the SASS or regarding the AP/EOC camp, please contact Mr. Akin at akaraarslan@harmonytx.org.
