Welcome to Our New Secretary!

Some of you have noticed a new face in the office this week. Our new secretary is Lauri Butler, and we are very happy to have her aboard our team. Please help us welcome her as you are in the building next week.

Principal's Pulse

What a wonderful week of memory making we have had! From the 3rd Grade Living History Museum on Tuesday morning to the Kinder Rodeo today, our students are involved in the activities that they will always remember. We have had a ball showcasing learning and having fun this week.

I would like to announce some staff changes that are taking place for the 2016-2017 school year. We are both sad for us and happy for our current staff that are moving in a different direction next year. We have several who are going to stay home and focus on their families, love on new grandbabies, continue higher education, teach at one of our other campuses and start new careers outside of education. Those who will not be returning are Lynn McCoy, Leigh Moore, Jen Rau, Stephanie Burge, Lindsay Thompson, Kes Ingram, Stormie Thomas and Angela Mitchell. I know you will join us in wishing them all the best when you see them next week to say goodbye. You will continue to see Mrs. Thompson at the Middle School and Coach Ingram at the High School.

With that being said, we want to welcome our new staff for next year. We will be filling the above positions plus adding 4 new teaching positions to cover our growth across the grade levels. Gloria Darnell will be moving from 1st grade to Mrs. McCoy's ESL teaching position. Mackenzie Smith will be our new nurse, and many of the students have met her when she was on campus a few days in May. Andrea Bigham will be our new art teacher, and Jenni McMurray will be our new PE teacher. We are adding the following teachers to our core teaching positions: Arin Padgett, Krystle Harbert, Nicole Minchey, Kathy Black and Erin Albert. We will be adding one more additional teacher and instructional aide positions that will be announced as soon as possible. We are blessed to have so many outstanding teachers and staff members joining our already fabulous VAES staff.

We are already to the last week of school. It is amazing how fast the time has flown! Thursday, June 2nd is the last day of school. It is an early release day, and school will be dismissed at 1:05.

As a reminder, we have another school holiday on Monday as we celebrate Memorial Day. Enjoy your time together as a family during this extended time.

2016-2017 School Year Information

Please mark this date on your calendar: Thursday, August 18th will be our Meet the Teacher Night. We will send out specific times and information in August.

First Day of School - Monday, August 22nd

New Starting Time Next Year!!!!

The state has changed the requirements for student attendance from a total number of school days to a total number of minutes in school. This has offered flexibility for us in building our calendar next year. To allow for our school calendar to end the 2016-2017 school year before Memorial Day, the elementary campus needed to add minutes to our school day. Our first bell will ring 15 minutes earlier than this year.

The doors will open next year at 7:20. The first bell will ring at 7:40, and the tardy bell will ring at 7:45. The dismissal bell will continue to be at 3:05. The bus schedule should not change except for minor route adjustments.

Second Elementary School Informational Meeting

Dr. Spies will discuss the decision-making process for the need of a second elementary school as our enrollment grows along with the reasons for considering specific grade level configurations on Monday, June 20th. Parents will have the opportunity to ask questions and to share their opinions as well. Come join us at the High School in the multipurpose room at 7:00 p.m. for a public forum on this topic immediately before the normally scheduled School Board meeting.

Memory Making Fun

The students are enjoying popsicles as part of the PTA fundraising efforts.

The students in the middle picture had a ball on Saturday night enjoying pizza, playing dodgeball and sardines for the party that Sam Fazzino won at the VAEF Gala.

Beautiful Images Today of Reading!

The 6th grade students from the Middle School came to read to our 1st - 4th graders today. What a wonderful treat for our young readers to listen to the original books the older students had created!

Thank you to Scott Pierson!

Mr. Pierson came to play percussion for our 3rd and 4th graders today. He is the uncle of one of our 4th grade students.

Important Cafeteria Information

Van Alstyne ISD Child Nutrition wants to give parents a friendly reminder that starting on April 29, 2016, students will not be allowed to charge meals for the remainder of the school year. This is to ensure Child Nutrition has all account balances in the positive. If you have any questions please call Elementary Cafeteria Manager Stephanie Lewis. We appreciate your understanding and patience with this situation. (903)482-8830

Please ensure your child's immunizations are up to date!

Students must have all immunizations current in order to be placed on a class list for the 2016-2017 school year. Please see the information below to determine which immunization(s) your child may need. For our campus, this mostly affects incoming Pre-K and Kinder students.
