K-5 Students Learn How To Be Safe Online
By the lesson's end, students pledge to stay safe online by following the procedures outlined in this "We the Digital Citizenship" video. Families can have follow-up conversations with their students using this family activity as a guide.
Teaching digital citizenship lessons is one of the many library lessons teacher librarians at Holt, Howard, and Chavez will bring to students at their schools this year.
Computer Science Education Week Dec. 5th-11th
"Computer Science Education Week is an annual call to action to inspire K-12 students to learn computer science, advocate for equity, and celebrate the contributions of students, teachers, and partners to the field."
No worries if you don't have any experience teaching computer science. I've got you covered! The Hour of Code is an easy way to get students engaged with virtually no prep on your part. Students LOVE participating in an Hour of Code and it's easy to get started! You can sign up on their website here or skip the sign-up and just follow these steps to get up and running in no time.
Students love the Minecraft, Star Wars, Frozen, and Angry Birds puzzles, but just about any puzzle will have them hooked! The Grinch puzzle is always a hit this time of year too!
There are puzzles for all levels, K12, even non-readers! Once students get started, you can use it all year long, and students will love it! If you're on overload and need help, I am happy to visit your class and get students up and running with coding. Email Amy Page (page_a@4j.lane.edu) or schedule a class visit here and I can get your class started.

New Library Survey: Think Big, Think Bold, Think Outside the Book
This summer, Eugene Public Library collected your ideas to help us "craft our next chapter." Now we've shaped that input into a new multiple-choice survey to get a closer read on what's most important to you. What do you want and need most from your library as we plan for the future? More books? More maker spaces? Better parking? Please take our brief survey right now.
Community Celebrations at the Library
¡Celebrando Fiesta! As this year's Fiesta Cultural winds down, celebrate with a casual and fun event for all ages on Thursday, December 22, 5-7 p.m. at the Downtown Library. We'll be spinning Latin records and serving up hot chocolate, pan dulce pastries from a local bakery, and crafts for children.
And to welcome the new year, kids, teens, and family are invited to count down to the moment the clock strikes twelve ... twelve noon, that is! Join our creative party for Noon Year's Eve at the Downtown Library on Saturday, December 31, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
