The Townshend Acts (1767
The Townsend acts was where, Great Britain/Loyalists, raised taxes on paper, wool, paint and led which lead to the Colonists to do boycotts and hang effigy from trees. The colonists did not like this so they did not buy any products from Great Britain and they made their own items that they would usually buy.
Taxation (1750's - 1760's)
Great Britain thought that they needed to raise taxes because they were in debt and needed money after fighting with Pontiac's army/ The Indian War. Great Britain also increased taxes on paper products like, playing cards, newspapers and legal documents.
The Boston Massacre (March 5, 1770)
The Boston Massacre was when some workers in Boston get in a fight with a British soldier and start throwing snowballs at him and yelling at him. Then more soldiers came and people started coming over to see what was happening and some soldiers started shooting some people in the crowds and five colonists were killed.
The Boston Tea Party (December 16th, 1773)
The Boston Tea party was were some of the Sons Of Liberty disguised themselves so they would not be recognized. Then they threw 324 chests of tea into the the harbor. This angered the British even more!
The Declaration of Independence (July 4th, 1776)
The Declaration of Independence was written by Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Robert R. Livingston, and Robert Sherman because they wanted to show Britain that the colonies wanted Independence. They wanted independence because they wanted their own rights and freedom.The Declaration of independence was made for the colonists to have life, liberty and freedom.
