Sharing Second Grade
A Peek at Our Week
November 27, 2017
MATH:
2.1 - This week students will start unit 3 skills. They will measure the length of objects in both customary (inches and feet) and metric (centimeters and meters). Students will have experiences choosing objects, identifying the appropriate tool and unit, and then measuring the object. They will determine which tools and units to use.
2.2 - Students are still cruising along with arrays. On Friday they had fun creating an array city and naming it. After the break, we'll continue with arrays and then shift our focus to collecting and organizing data and then analyzing our findings. Please continue practicing subtraction facts every evening and completing 30-minutes of RedBird weekly.
3.1 - This week students will continue to explore the relationship between multiplication and division. Students will learn to find the unknown number in any equation being in any position: 8 x n = 24, 4 = 32 ÷ n, 4 x 3 = n
READING:
This week we are beginning a new unit as we explore different characters in realistic fiction stories! We will study a variety of characters and examine their motivations, reactions, and responses to problems and events in the texts.
WRITING:
In our new unit students will generate and write realistic fiction stories featuring a central character. They will introduce their character in 'Book One' and develop subsequent texts as they write their character in and out of precarious problems!
SOCIAL STUDIES:
We are continuing our Social Studies unit this week. Students are learning about the Georgia Creek and Cherokee cultures. They are researching and describing different aspects of the two tribes, including ways they made a living, their accomplishments, and their difficulties.
Evening of the Arts!
Each CCES student will have a framed artwork on display gallery-style in the Gym. Framing is available for purchase that evening for $25 Cash or check only. Please be assured, your child’s artwork will be returned to them if the framing is not purchased. We would love for you to come to our event even if you do not choose to purchase the frame! If you are unable to attend the Art Show, you still have an opportunity to purchase the frame containing your child’s artwork. From Monday, November 27th until Tuesday, December 5th, you may send $25 cash or check to school with your child. Please place inside an envelope with your child/children’s name on the outside and have them bring it to Mrs. Steffensen in the Art Room. Proceeds from the sale go directly towards the purchase of art supplies for CCES student artists. We thank you for your support!
