For Your Information & Action:
From the Nurses' Office: Please be aware that any type of scents used at school, such as heavy perfumes, perfumed lotions and even essential oils can physically impact others in the building. According to the American Academy of Asthma, Allergy and Immunology, studies have found that diffused essential oils were found to release terpenes, toluene, and benzene, among other VOCs (volatile organic compounds), into the air. Terpenes have been associated with breathing difficulty among patients with and without asthma. We ask that all staff be mindful at school and to enjoy these products at home instead!
Hallway Supervision: Students have reported concerns about not being able to pass through certain hallways because other students are inadvertently blocking the hallways in between classes. They are primarily frustrated with the hallways before homeroom and before advisory. Please be in the hallway at 7:30am and between classes to help usher students along and ensure that the halls aren't blocked.
College Week!
Next week is College Week school-wide!
Faculty should wear college gear all week and encourage students to get involved with the activities.
Each day during advisory there will be college week activities designed to spark conversations and familiarize students with different terminology associated with college. It would be great if advisors, especially of younger students, take time to review some vocabulary as you are doing the activities. For instance, students may not know what the following things are: Associates/Bachelors degrees, study abroad, work study, internships, resident assistant, etc.
Staff Shout Outs!
- Shout out to Matt Geertsma who had his 9th grade students doing hands-on math work in the hallway last week! Students were engaged and excited, and were able to explain what they were doing when they were asked!
Responsibility and Perseverance:
- Thank you to Susannah Branch and her entire advisory for being a model advisory on a daily basis. They sit as a group and engage with each other through a variety of activities every day. Please reach out to Susannah if you are interested in talking about or seeing how her advisory runs so smoothly!
- Shout out to everyone who has used our new referral system to track student behavior! Thank you to Jesse Porter-Henry, Terry Barut, and Courtney Sullivan for modeling how to use the system and quickly and effectively communicate with families.
- Shout out to Laura Pompei, Natalie Levreault, and Sarah Buckley for being in the hallways before homeroom and in between classes without fail. Thank you for redirecting students and for ushering them to their classes!
Collaboration and Engagement:
- Shout out from the cafeteria staff to Natalie Levreault and Stephanie Faas for always going the extra mile to help improve our school for the students!
Respect and Compassion:
- Thank you to Superintendent Osborne for making all faculty and staff feel like an important part of the team.
