MMEA Instrumental Jazz Festival
March 18th and 19th, 2022
Welcome to the MMEA Instrumental State Jazz Festival!
On behalf of the Maine Music Educators Association, THANK YOU for joining us this weekend. Whether you are a musician, educator, chaperone, audience member or parent, you are part of an extraordinary event–the return of live music festivals in Maine!
Join me in expressing deep appreciation for everyone who has worked for over a year to bring this event to reality:
Matt Waite, Jazz Vice President of Millinocket for providing exceptional leadership in addressing safe and fair performance protocols, communication with directors, and creating a schedule for performance groups.
Becky Mallory, Instrumental Jazz Chair of Reeds Brook MS for arranging adjudicators for our jazz festivals and contributing thoughtful ideas and information throughout the planning process.
MMEA Board and Executive Committee for endeavoring to bring the best experiences possible to students.
Heidi Corliss and Patrick Michaud of Hampden Academy, our hosts! Welcoming an event of this scope is a significant undertaking, requiring extensive planning and support from numerous stakeholders. Special thanks to Mr. Bill Tracy, Principal, and the Hampden Academy Music Association. This event could not be the success it is without the leadership and involvement of the HA administration or the families and students working to ensure a positive experience.
The efforts of these colleagues are in addition to their daily work as music educators. Their vision for this event and dedication to our student musicians is unmatched.
As you enjoy the performances today and experience all that music brings to you, take a moment to consider the innumerable hours of practice, rehearsal, and planning on the parts of student musicians and educators. Behind every musical ensemble performance is an individual effort, a high degree of group collaboration, and a willingness to take risks. Our musicians and educators have persevered through unprecedented events and continue to do so. They deserve our highest respect and support as we all strive to bring outstanding music education experiences to all students.
Thank you for being part of this event!
Sincerely,
Sandra K. Barry
President, Maine Music Educators Association
Welcome to Hampden Academy
We are excited to welcome you to the campus of Hampden Academy and are honored to host the 2022 MMEA Instrumental Jazz Festival! Our school is your home for the next two days and we hope you are able to find that it more than meets your needs. The opportunity to convene so many talented musicians, educators, and guests in RSU 22 at Hampden Academy is something we have been looking forward to for quite some time. It has been amazing to see and hear live performances again, being able to share in the experience that live music provides has been incredible and it’s something that helps bring us all together. We look forward to celebrating that with you over these two days!
With Care,
C. William Tracy
