Fall PD Academy Registration Opens 9/30

We are excited to announce that registration for Fall Professional Development will open Wednesday, September 30th at 4:00pm. At this time any staff member will be able to enroll in professional workshops through My Learning Plan. Once registration is open, you will be able to view all Fall PD workshops listed in the district catalog.

Some tips when reviewing the catalog:

  • All workshop will appear in the catalog at 4:00pm on 9/30
  • Each listing contains all relevant information- times and registration requirements
  • Read through each description before signing up
  • Make sure the workshop you sign up for is geared to your grade/content area
  • Take note of times and dates of each workshop to make sure that you can attend
  • Some workshops may require that you attend multiple sessions, make sure that you are available to attend each session
  • Only sign up for workshops that you have not yet attended
  • All workshops are first come first serve

Registration will close on Tuesday, October 6th.

Remember if you are registering for a workshop that is during school hours you are responsible for procuring your own substitute and reporting your absence. You also need to make sure that you plan accordingly for your absence with sub plans. Please ensure that your substitute and absence is registered in SAMS. This is for ALL staff, regardless of whether or not you require a substitute.

If a conflict arises and you can no longer attend a workshop, please email me as soon as possible. This will allow me to fill your spot with someone on the wait list if given enough notice. Please do not remove yourself from any workshop without notifying me.

All room locations are subject to change. It is your responsibility to check your email for any changes before attending any workshop. All participants must park in the front lot when attending any workshop at Bolger.

We hope you will support the professional development academy by taking the time to attend and grow through the workshops offered. Please send any feedback or suggestions to me at any time.

Staff Developer Available for Support!

This past August, Christine Formica was appointed District Staff Developer and outside of supporting out district’s professional development plan and our newest colleagues, she is also available to support any teacher or staff member in the classroom. One of the advantages of having a staff developer is the ability for a non-administrator to work with all staff to coach teachers and model lessons as needed. Christine has an extensive instructional background as well as outstanding expertise in technology integration and literacy.

If you are in need of any type of support, please contact her or click on the link Request Support - KSD Staff Development to request her support.

10 Tips for Delivering Awesome Professional Development

By Elena Aguilar: Transformational Leadership Coach from Oakland, CA

I frequently meet teacher leaders and coaches who ask for tips on giving professional development (PD). Their expansive job descriptions include delivering professional development, and yet they feel unsure of how to do this. I respond by validating these feelings: Facilitating adult learning is different than working with children and very few of us have ever had explicit training in this area.

While this subject is worthy of a book (and unfortunately there isn't one that I recommend), I'd like to offer some suggestions for delivering PD that I've refined over the last ten years. Here they are, offered in a slightly random order:
