Dear Bulldog Families,
Friday brings our first semester to a close. Our days have been filled with learning experiences of all kinds, and we hope that you are seeing evidence of this learning at home too. Our learning takes a variety of formats, some similar to when you attended elementary and some very different. We believe that learning is continual and ever-growing with limitless possibilities. Learning is not just one event but a series of connected opportunities in which new knowledge is formed.
Learning sometimes takes the format of service to others. Our kindergarten classes recently traveled to several retirement and assisted living facilities within our community. While there, they showcased some learning, through songs and poems, that they have been engaged in regarding variations of The Gingerbread Man. As an added benefit they also Made Their Day (for the residents), one of our building-wide expectations. Two of our third-grade classes just finished an economics project in which greeting cards were made and sold. This project was interdisciplinary in that it incorporated reading, researching, writing, math and social studies...and numerous life skills (cooperation, empathy, compassion, etc.) as the project culminating in buying things for others in need. Our Bulldog Student Council also led us in a service opportunity that benefitted our local community. We are excited to announce that our NBE families donated 540 items to the Delaware Township Food Pantry. Thank you for helping others in our community.
Community connections are not only important to New Britton, but they are an area of focus for Hamilton Southeastern and the City of Fishers as we work to create a city-wide campus. Mayor Fadness, Norman Burn (CEO of Conner Prairie), and Dr. Bourff have been in partnership regarding ways we can continue to strengthen our community and support learning opportunities for our children. This year we have added a partnership with Conner Prairie in which an HSE Teacher in Residence, Amy Murch, is working with 4th grade teachers to provide authentic learning opportunities using Conner Prairie as the classroom. Our 1st grade partnership with Ritchey Woods with Danessa Stolz as the naturalist/teacher continues to provide our students with engaging science lessons that often lead to more questions, inquiry, and study across disciplines.
The City of Fishers continues with the commitment to providing connections through the development of a database (CurioCity) in which HSE teachers have access to authentic audiences (for sharing student learning), guest speakers, study trips, job shadowing, Project-based Learning (PBL) experts and resources, internships, apprenticeships, and even teacher externships. We have several teachers currently piloting the use of this database to enhance student learning. This first year at the elementary level, we are primarily using CurioCity to connect with experts to assist us with research and other specific learning needs and authentic audience members for us to share our knowledge. We are looking for additional individuals or businesses who may be interested in serving as a resource for student learning. Please contact me at email@example.com if you are interested in learning more about CurioCity or how you can become involved in student learning.
The NBE Bulldog Teaching Team would like to wish you and your families a safe and happy winter break. We look forward to continuing learning with your students as the new year begins back at New Britton on Tuesday, January 8th. As always, thank you for partnering with us in education.
IMPORTANT DISTRICT EARLY DISMISSAL INFORMATION
Students will be dismissed 20 minutes early each Monday
to allow teachers to participate in additional training and education.
- Please be at your child's bus stop ready to receive your child 20 minutes earlier than their regular arrival time each Monday.
- Car riders will need to be picked up at 3:20.
The easiest and most efficient way for your children to get to and from school is the district provided transportation. Our busing system is set in place to transport all NBE students safely and efficiently.
If your student needs to be a car rider more than occasionally and you have not yet received a car tag, please email Michelle at firstname.lastname@example.org with your name, your student's name and your 4 digit FastLane number to get your car tag. Please hang the car tag from your rear view mirror each day to help expedite the pick up process.
Thank you to all families that have been consistently using the car tags for pick up. It seems to have helped speed up the entire process!
