Res Weekly Update #6
The Way to Stay in Touch with All Things Res: 10/29 - 11/9
Principals Corner
I do not think that we can take on another project; or can we?!?!?! I know we have so many things happening and it can be fatiguing. However, the moment that I walk into a classroom and see a teacher incorporating question/discussion strategies that they worked on with Dr. Vallone or step into a meeting where a teacher is discussing the possible reasons for student performance on a particular standard with Mr. Lascon or see a faculty member meeting with Ms. Bernardin to design more responsive and proactive classroom management techniques, I say amen.
Recently, many students have come to me with a variety of concerns/questions from many aspects of the school. I value their input (with guidance, it should be the foundation of a lot of our programming). I am currently looking into how we can leverage student council to be a voice for students in addition to the already utilized channels.
Speaking of student voice, I want to take a moment a remind all of us of the importance of the RtI process. This process, as was shared with you last year and at the start of this term, is designed to prevent any of our students from slipping between the cracks. I personally monitor the feedback that you provide on tier 2. I fully expect your accurate, timely, and constructive contributions. If you have any questions, please see Ms. Toomey or Ms. O'Donnell. Furthermore, please spend some time considering your grades and the weekly positing of student assessment data.
In the coming weeks, I will share more information with you surrounding our STREAM program; it will be one of a kind and something that will continue to transform the student learning experience! As we move into November, please consider these two questions (I may ask your input when I see you in the halls!):
1. How am I instilling critical thinking skills with our students?
2. How do I define critical thinking?
Happy Halloween,
-Mr. P
Weekly Grades, Finals Schedule & Room Reservations
Weekly Grades
Weekly grade reports are run on Friday morning each week. Teachers are required to update grades weekly and they need to be updated by Thursday evening (midnight) for the Friday morning report. We ask that teachers please stay out of their gradebooks from 9:45 - noon on Fridays so that an accurate report can be printed. Additionally, if we do not have school on Friday, please have grades for the week updated on Wed evening (midnight) so the report can be run Thursday morning. If you have any questions concerning SDS or grade submission, please contact Joe Lascon.

Instruction & Technology Updates
Data Binders
In a short time, we have gone from very little data to swimming in data. Data can become overwhelming, much like the "Shared With Me" section of my Google Drive. For that reason, being intentional and organized is your best bet. The Data Wise process is meant to provide a narrowed, organized process for taking mountains of data and coming to very actionable strategies. As for the data itself (which isn't just standardized tests), data binders can be very helpful. Here is some great tips/strategies for creating, organizing and utilizing a data binder:
- The data binder/notebook should primarily include class-level data. An example would be ACT Aspire Interim class-level reports. The class-level reports indicates things like the number of students in the class who showed proficiency in each tested skill area.
- A second section of the data binder should contain individual student data. This can involve class learning artifacts, Aspire Interim Individual Student Reports, parent communication and student interventions. This information can be used in multiple situations, including department discussions, administrative discussions, communication with parents and tracking of individual students.
- As we work through the action steps of the Data Wise process, an organized binder/notebook makes it easy to track your progress towards addressing your Priority Question
As we are still near the beginning of the Data Wise process, consider taking the time between now and the next interim test (early Jan) to create a data binder. If you need any help, please let me know!

Curriculum and Academics!
Academics
AP Teachers Dr. Vallone has sent a link with opportunities for professional development (given by the College Board) to your Curriculum Coordinators. If you are interested in going to a PD, please let your Curriculum Coordinator know. Curriculum Coordinators - submit the request to Dr. Vallone with pertinent information including the date, name of the PD Session, location of conference and day(s) requested off work. If administration approves the request, Resurrection will provide funds for the workshop/conference.
D/F list - In order to facilitate several programs e.g. athletic, cheer, and Rankin, weekly grades MUST be submitted by 9:00 a.m. every Friday. Once your weekly grades are entered, please do not enter additional grades for 24 hours. Please reach out to your students on the D/F list and let them know of resources that are available. These resources include requesting an NHS tutor, getting extra help in the think tank, and meeting with their classroom teacher before school each morning for one-on-one time.

Spiritual Reflections
Your value, and responsibility, as a Catholic school educator
The Catholic School, # 43
Sacred Congregation for Catholic Education, 1977.
The achievement of this specific aim of the Catholic school depends not so much on subject matter or methodology as on the people who work there. The extent to which the Christian message is transmitted through education depends to a very great extent on the teachers. The nobility of the task to which teachers are called demands that, in imitation of Christ, the only Teacher, they reveal the Christian message not only by word but also by every gesture of their behavior. This is what makes the difference between a school whose education is permeated by the Christian spirit and one in which religion is only regarded as an academic subject like any other.
Happy Birthday!
