Mr. Corso’s Principal’s Message
Positive Raiders: Responsible, Respectful, Hard Working and Kind
This Week’s Positive Message: I read this to students on Thursday, “In consideration of recent world events, it is very important that all of our families and students are valued and safe. Hate has no place at Black Mountain Middle School and in Poway Unified School District. Stereotyping is not part of BMMS. Hateful speech against any group is unacceptable. We encourage everyone to step up and be allies to each other right now. As our country does its best to ensure the safety of all Americans, it is essential that each and everyone of us does our part to ensure the safety of all people in our Black Mountain community. Thank you.”
Thank you again to those who donated to the Jacket and Blanket Drive. Special thanks to 7th grader Sadhika K. who organized the drive. This year, Raider families donated 73 Jackets and 23 Blankets and they were distributed to people in need in San Diego.
Annual National SPEAK UP Survey: The perspectives of our parents are very important to BMMS and PUSD. Below is a survey link that focuses on 21st century learning. Please consider filling it out. The link for this year’s survey can be found here: https://Speakup.Tomorrow.org/D/DC2P
(Reminder) 2020-2021 Enrollment Transfer Timeline Update:
If you live in the Poway Unified School District boundaries and are interested in requesting a transfer to a school that is not your school of residence, you must submit a request during the transfer window of February 1 – March 31, 2020. No transfer requests will be accepted outside of this window, and no exceptions will be made. Note: if your student is currently on an Intradistrict Transfer and is moving to the next level (elementary to middle or middle to high school), he/she does not automatically move to the next school with their classmates. You must reapply for an Intradistrict Transfer. If your child is currently on an Intradistrict Transfer, his/her siblings do not automatically get into to the transfer school. You must apply for a separate Transfer for the sibling. Please click the link below for more information and frequently asked questions on transfer requests, as well as upcoming timelines for continuing student registration and new student enrollment. https://powayusd.com/en-US/Departments/Attendance-Discipline/Student-Transfer-Requests/FAQs-for-Residency-Transfers
As we turn our calendars to a new year, many of us set a resolution to improve our lives. This week in Homeroom, students got a first look at a BMMS Core Values Rubric. The rubric examines our four core values (Respect, Responsibility, Hard Work and Kindness) on a 4 point scale. The rubric was created by BMMS students. Check out the rubric here LINK. It could be something your student and you reflect on together at home to help them in school.
Thank you for all your support,
Scott Corso
