Our first graders started WIN this week and have been doing an amazing job!

WIN stands for What I Need and will target literacy and math skills at each students’ level. TK and kindergarten students will also start WIN in a few weeks. Be sure to ask your child about their WIN time! Great job Little Toreadors!

Mr. Hammen's class at Franklin has some exciting news!

We adopted a Red Panda from the Blank Park Zoo. Her name is Tadou. We received a stuffed version of Tadou along with some interesting facts. Throughout the year we will be able to participate in a few live chats with Tadou and the zoo staff. We also received 2 tickets to go and feed Tadou at the zoo and record a video to share with our class. Our class picture and school will be posted by Tadou's enclosure at the zoo as well. This was all made possible through a grant program sponsored by New Way.

Middle School Toreador of the Week

Elin Selby is the Middle School Toreador of the Week. Elin was chosen because she is Responsible, Respectful and Caring. Elin exhibits this by using class time to complete her work and asks great questions to do her best. She checks in on her progress and cares about how she does in class. She follows directions the first time they are given and meets classroom and building expectations just because it is the right thing to do. Elin is always willing to help out a fellow student whether it is to find a classroom, be a buddy on the way to the office, or help navigate google classroom or other online sites.

Keep up the good work, Elin!

EDGE Project Palooza & iJAG Fall Celebration

EDGE and iJAG staff and students welcomed more than 35 business and community members at Boone HS on Thursday, September 9th. Partners learned more about opportunities in work-based learning and career awareness and ways they can collaborate to support students. Community partners also had the chance to pitch project ideas to students that allow authentic, action-based work in our community. Many thanks to all of our partners!

YSS Mentoring Program - Update and Volunteer Opportunity!

The YSS Mentoring Program is looking forward to a return to in-person mentoring for the 2021-2022 school year! The program matches students in grades K-8th with a trained volunteer mentor once per week during the school day. These weekly meetings provide a positive, caring role model to eat lunch with, play games and simply talk about the student's interests and ideas.

Information and volunteer applications can be found at learn how your child can become a participant, contact Tracy at or Heidi at

Free School Breakfast and Lunch for all Students for the 2021-2022 school year

Tasty Toreador Meals - Supply Chain Issues

• This school year, thanks to federal pandemic waivers, all students will be eligible for free meals, regardless of family income.

• School meal programs nationwide are experiencing many of the same supply chain issues that have impacted restaurants and grocery stores throughout the pandemic.

• Our school nutrition team is committed to ensuring students continue to have access to healthy meals each school day.

• Just as families have to make substitutions on grocery lists, schools will have to make some last-minute changes to our regular menus, based on availability.

• We hope parents and students will be patient as we sort through these supply chain issues.

• We may not have the same menu choices that we typically offer our students, but we’ll be sure that all students are nourished and ready to learn.

*Reminder: For students bringing a sack lunch and wanting school milk, there will be a .50 cent charge per carton.

For questions regarding food service and accounts please contact the Food Service department located at Boone Middle School- Lori King, Director, (515) 433-0020 EXT 154.

High School Activities

Athletics Registration

Toreador Families,

Our "Online Athletics Registration" is live and active for the 2021-22 School Year (link is below). Please take the time to read through the information, and fill out the forms for your student. All students involved in District-Sponsored Athletics in grades 7-12 will need a completed online athletics registration on file, along with a current physical form (physicals are valid for 13 months after the date of the physical). There is a place within the registration to upload the completed physical form.

Completion of the Registration/Physical is not required for the attendance at any summer camps that may be offered. However, the Athletics Registration and Physical Form must be completed and on file before a student may physically participate in practice this Fall. For High School, this starting date is Monday August 9th. Middle School practices will begin a couple weeks later near the first day of school.

Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns in this process.

Take care, and Roll 'Dors!
