Next NRCO Meeting - Guest Speaker
Tuesday, January 11 on Zoom. A link will be emailed.
Save the dates and join us in January, February, and March as we welcome guest speaker Megan Barella. Join all three sessions or any one individual session. We will grow as a parenting/caregiving community as Megan guides us through her real life strategies in "Connection and Cooperation by becoming a Confident and Compassionate Leader in Your Family."
Season of Caring: November 29 - December 10
This holiday season the NRCO will be sponsoring a gift card drive for Nancy Ryles Elementary School families in need. In conjunction with Mountainside High School, who is graciously providing gifts, we are supporting 30 of our own school’s families. To celebrate the start of our Season of Caring gift card drive, the NRCO has purchased $500 in gift cards to Target and Safeway. There is a collection box in the school office, for your gift card donations. We are specifically requesting gift cards of $10-25 to Walmart, Safeway, Target, and Fred Meyer. These help families pay for groceries, gas, clothes, and household items. Gift cards are given to families during the holiday season and throughout the school year as family needs arise. Thank you for participating in Season of Caring!
Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB)- Looking for readers AND volunteers!
OBOB is a voluntary state-wide reading motivation and comprehension program for 3rd-12th grades. It involves teams of 4-5 students reading 16 books, then participating in trivia “battles” about the books. Any 3rd-5th grade student is welcome to participate. We hold our first meeting in December to form teams and start reading. Battles will start taking place in January. We need 2 volunteers to help with OBOB, particularly parents of 3rd and 4th grade OBOB participants. You can sign up via BetterImpact under Oregon Battle of the Books. Please contact Jill Rector at email@example.com with your questions. Additional OBOB information and this year’s book list can be found here.
Beaverton School District is now welcoming vaccinated volunteers* into the schools! We have opportunities that greatly support our students and staff at Nancy Ryles Elementary School. While these opportunities are not directly in the classroom, due to current distance requirements, they are high impact positions and you can really make a difference. If you are feeling ready and interested, sign up today!
Production Room -- most requested by teachers!
Help our teachers by making copies, prepping supplies, sharpening pencils, laminating, etc. Morning and afternoon shifts are available daily. If you’d like training, Amanda Cary is available Tuesdays from 8:30-10:30 a.m.
Our students are enjoying being back in the library checking out books! Ms. Osborne needs our help processing returned books. Shifts are Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays 8:30-11:15 a.m. and 12:30-3:00 p.m.
We need 2 volunteers for Vision Screening, on Wednesday, December 1, from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Your role will be helping make sure students are in the right place at the right time, not performing the actual vision screening (no optometry experience needed).
This person helps to coordinate volunteers specifically for one teacher. If we are able to have Friendship parties, they will work with other grade-level liaisons to coordinate the Friendship parties in February. We are still in need of Classroom Liaisons for: Davenport, Beals, Olson, Otter, Minnieweather, and Gittings. We will have Classroom Liaison Training on Thursday, December 9 at 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., currently planned on Zoom.
*Vaccination Cards: Must be uploaded to your BetterImpact account before you will be able to volunteer. That can be done from the “My profile” tab in BetterImpact, then “Additional Information,” then scroll to the bottom of the page to add your vaccination card.
All volunteer opportunities are posted on Better Impact.
VIRTUAL BOOK FAIR
Thank you! Thank you for supporting our fall virtual book fair. We closed the fair with $3,074.95 in book sales, which means 390 books are going into the hands of readers. The school library will receive $768 is book credits, thanks to you!!
