October NFREA Meeting Reminder
Don't miss the October 21st NFREA meeting!
We’ll meet at the Adult Recreation Center on Grimes Bridge Road at 10:00 a.m. for coffee. Our business meeting will start at 10:30 with guest speaker state Senator John Albers. Senator Albers will share ‘Why the American Flag should never touch the ground,' as well as bring us an update on what is happening in the state legislature that has implications for current and retired educators
Retired Educators Day
There are 115,000 retired educators in GA who give thousands of volunteer hours annually to their community. Governor Nathan Deal has declared Sunday, November 1 as a day to recognize the work our retired GA educators freely give to their local communities.
Roswell Mayor Jere Wood and Alpharetta Mayor David Belle Isle have also recognized the work of retired educators in our local organization. Both Mayors will present a ceremonial proclamation to NFREA that recognizes the volunteer work we give.
Since Georgia’s Retired Educator Day is on a Sunday, it has been suggested that we let our local places of worship know of this honor so they may recognize retirees in their newsletters, bulletins and services. Please help us get the information on Retired Educators Day to our churches, synagogues and mosques. Please print the attached flyer and drop it off at your place of worship so they have time to get this information into their plans for a November 1st recognition. Here is a message that you can print and share with your place of worship.
Become a GREA Member
When you join NFREA, you do not automatically become a member of GREA, the state retired educators association. When you become a member of GREA you receive additional GA retirees benefits, like Apple discounts and travel deals. And, with 25,000 current members, the GREA has a loud voice to our state legislators.
One way you can pay your GREA dues is by checking the Automatic Dues Deduction (ADD) option on the Membership Form. When you select the ADD option, $2 is automatically deducted monthly from your TRS pension check.
A 10% increase in GREA members for NFREA will earn our NFREA unit the ‘Membership Award,” and a $100 bonus towards our scholarship fund.
