Big picture

Virtual PTO Community Coffee

Thanks to all of you who were able to join us for our PTO virtual coffee this week. It was great to mingle with new and returning families and get to know each other. On the first Thursday of each month, the school hosts a coffee, alternating between a coffee with the Head of School and a coffee with the PTO. Jacques is up next on Thursday, November 5th.

Staff In-Service

Our staff in-service today included CPR and First-Aid Training. Thank you to CPR Resources who trained virtually and tested our staff in small groups, so we are all bonified. We would like to extend an even bigger thank you to our Parent Teacher Organization for providing a delicious lunch to our faculty and staff today! We felt the love all around and was much appreciated. Thank you to Holly Johnson for the special delivery!

Room Parents Still Needed

Each year Room Parents help provide support to the class teachers, the school, and the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). Volunteering as a Room Parent will look a bit different this year, but will include disseminating reminders (from school & PTO updates found in the Friday Flash) to the other class parents, reinforcing class and teacher needs, and updating parents with other school information regularly. Thank you to those parents who have already signed up. We still need Fall Room Parents in the following grades: CP1, CP2, CE2, CM2a, CM2b & Middle School. Thanks for signing up here. You may review the information shared at the coffee here.

Student Forms Past Due

Please were due by September 28, 2020. If we do not have your forms on file, we will send a reminder over the break and students will not be admitted to school until appropriate documentation is submitted.

We thank you for your support to ensure that your children’s records comply with the laws of the State of Texas. If you have any questions about these requirements, please do not hesitate to contact Jacques at your convenience.

PikMyKid Drop-off & Pick-Up Reminders

Thank you for remembering to Check-In in the mornings to complete the Mandatory daily screening from home or while parked on campus. Parents can check-in remotely, even if other folks are providing transport for drop-off.

Here is a reminder about the school dismissal times:

  • PS-GS students may be picked up between 3:15 pm-3:45 pm.
  • CP-CE2 students may be picked up between 3:15 pm-3:30 pm.
  • CM1-4è students may be picked up between 3:30-3:45 pm.
Volunteers Still Needed! to help watch students walk to and from classrooms. Thank you for signing up for an afternoon Safety Patrol shift here.

Fall Break-10/5 - 10/9

The school will be closed for our Fall Break the week of October 5th through 9th. This year we will not have a Fall Break camp as originally planned, but we will see you as you return from Fall Break on Monday, October 12th. We hope you all have a safe and relaxing week!

Travel, Testing & Social Gathering Guidelines

Please review this important memo from our Head of School, Jacques Weber regarding travel and safety guidelines.

School Tips & Reminders

Please remember that parents must wear face masks as well while outside on campus, however, this does not apply to parents inside vehicles during drop-off and pick-up.

Thank you for also remembering to label all water bottles, jackets, and lunchboxes. As students often go outside, this will ensure belongings stay with their owners and are easily identified.

Virtual State of the School-Thur., 10/15 6:30 - 8:00 pm

We hope all our parents can join us for our annual State of the School Address which will be virtual this year. Members of the AIS Board of Directors and school leadership will highlight our financial and school progress over the last year and look ahead to the school's future.

Spirit Night @ Modern Market-Fri., 10/16, 5:00 - 8:00 pm

Previously, AIS has partnered with local restaurants and establishments for our fun Spirit Nights, enjoying evenings out mingling as a community at a restaurant or other establishment. These partners then donated a portion of AIS sales back to the school. While we can't dine out together as a group, we are making our Spirit Nights virtual! So have a night free of cooking and order online, and have it delivered or pick it up curbside.

Join us for the first Spirit Night of the school year at Modern Market in the Arboretum on October 16th. Here is how it will work:

  • RSVP here to let the restaurant staff and prepare, as necessary.
  • Order online: Make sure to enter "giveback019" so the school receives donations for your order or
  • Via phone at 512-401-3694 and mention that you are with Austin International School before placing your order.
  • Modern Market will generously donate 30% back to AIS.

We thank you for participating in these easy fundraising events. See the attached flyer for other upcoming Spirit Nights.

MAP Assessments Begin-Mon., 10/26

We will begin our first term Measure of Academic Performance (MAP) Assessments on Monday, October 26th. We will update you with more details as it gets closer.

Halloween at AIS-Fri., 10/30

While we can't have our typical costume parade or classroom parties, this year we are taking it mobile. Stay tuned for more information about costumes and our Spooktacular Halloween Car Parade!

Happy Birthday, bon anniversaire, and feliz cumpleanos to the following students with October birthdays: Brooklyn T., Carew A., Margot M., Atticus C., Yelena K., Marc-Olivier M., Ella M., Marcelo Q., Mateo K., Pablo F., Jacques M., & Ines R.,
