WWII Tuskegee Airman Speaks to AFJROTC
Earlier this week, neighboring Bensalem School District's Marine JROTC invited Pennsbury's AFJROTC to Bensalem High School to visit one of the last living historic Tuskegee Airmen, Dr. Eugene Richardson. The Tuskegee Airmen were a group of primarily African American military pilots and airmen who fought in World War II.
This was a once in a lifetime experience for many cadets. The cadets enjoyed hearing the unique stories and events Dr. Richardson recalled about his time during the war. He talked about many African American pilots who didn’t get the fame they deserved, as well as stories about his unit, the Red Wings, and his operations in World War II.
The AFJROTC also invited members of the Pennsbury social studies departments to join them on this trip, along with PHS Campus Principal Mr. Meadows. Many local news channels - as well as our very own Pennsbury channel - were present for this wonderful opportunity. This was a memorable and valuable trip that our students will not soon forget!

Eleanor Roosevelt Students Gain Perspective on Life in Africa
Kindergarten students at Eleanor Roosevelt Elementary School recently learned about Africa from some special visitors who offered a personal perspective.
The students just wrapped up a social studies unit that focused on the different continents. Kindergarten teachers Mrs. Baccari and Mrs. Behrle thought the special guests could enhance what the students had learned.
One of the visitors, Nasser Otmani, is a refugee from Central African Republic, and is the son of Eleanor Roosevelt reading specialist Mrs. Myles. The other visitor was Eleanor Roosevelt 3rd-grader Maleek Muhammed, from Nigeria. Mrs. Baccari and Mrs. Berhle also invited
Salifou Keita (4th-grade) and Rayan Echane (4th-grade), who were both born in Africa, to join the presentation
The guest speakers shared their knowledge and experiences of Africa. Following their presentation, the children listened to traditional African music. They also learned about the difficulty of obtaining and transferring fresh water and the animals, housing, foods, and markets in the different parts of Africa.
"I thought this went well with not only our curriculum, but with the equity initiative, and I was really happy that one little boy, especially, got to share his background and his experience in Africa with the children. I think it made him feel really special to speak in front of the kindergartners and answer the questions they prepared for him," said Mrs. Baccari.
School Bus Driver Appreciation Day!
Schools all across the district celebrated National School Bus Driver Appreciation Day this week. Pennsbury is extremely grateful for the transportation staff who ensure our students get to and from school safely every single day.
Dr. Smith said, "Pennsbury’s drivers transport almost 9,000 students daily, both inside and outside of the district. These men and women are dedicated to transporting our community's most precious cargo. They greet their passengers with a smile and a wave and get them to and from school safely every day, making a lasting impression with their kindness. Their efforts do not go unnoticed, and we appreciate them today and every day!"
Below are some pictures from Fallsington Elementary School of students and staff showing their genuine appreciation to their drivers with smiles, thank-yous, and posters.
Author Marc Tyler Nobleman Visits Charles Boehm
Charles Boehm Middle School hosted author, researcher, and cartoonist, Marc Tyler Nobleman on Friday, February 25. Mr. Nobleman spoke to each grade level, sharing stories about his research into the creator of the Batman comics. Nobleman talked about how his research revealed that Bob Kane, credited with creating the Batman comic, had some help from a man named Bill Finger. Mr. Nobleman wrote about this in a book entitled Bill The Boy Wonder.
Nobleman told students they were all "researchers" and likened the process to playing 'hide and seek.' He reminded them that they each have a voice, and they should persist and never let anyone tell them they can't do something in which they truly believe.
Following the grade level assemblies, about a dozen students had the opportunity to spend more time Mr. Nobleman during lunch and then engage in a Writer's Workshop with the author.
Mrs. Wert, Charles Boehm librarian, shares that "author visits provide students with encouragement, helps build connections to the written word, and promotes reading and writing. Comments heard in the hallway ranged from, 'He was awesome!' to 'That was a great presentation!' We are thankful for the support from Boehm's PTO who funded Nobleman's visit."

Home Decor on a Budget
Teen Living is a course offered by the Family and Consumer Sciences Department at Pennsbury High School that helps students manage their lives through a better understanding of consumer education, cooking, nutrition, clothing care, and obtaining a first job. This course teaches students how to improve their home and life skills through a practical approach and prepares students for everyday adult decisions they will need to make once they are living on their own.
While learning about how to create and manage a budget, students took part in a Home Decor on a Budget Project. Each student researched and planned for a home decor project of their choice that could be created utilizing materials from the dollar store. Their budget was to stay under $5.00. The average project actually cost $3.00 or less! Students created their masterpieces to take home and add to their home decor.
