Spring Assessment Season is Here
We will be conducting our Spring assessments in the coming month.
- Illinois Assessment for Readiness- Our state-mandated tests are given in a specific time window once per year measuring growth toward learning standards in math and reading. We will be administering these assessments on March 15, 16, 17 and March 22, 23.
- Illinois Science Assessment- This assessment is given only to our 8th graders in science and will be administered after spring break.
IMPORTANT TO NOTE:
Students will need earbuds or headphones to take these assessments! The assessments are computer-based with information delivered via videos or recordings. Please make sure your students have these and a FULLY CHARGED Chromebook on testing days. Thank you.

PTO Happenings
The HBMS PTO was busy during the month of February, as some of our major committees launched their efforts for Honor Roll Breakfasts, Butter Braid Sales, Saver’s FUNDrive and last, but not least, the 8th Grade Dance! Be on the lookout for more details and information on all of these initiatives and more.
The PTO helped students spread the love to HBMS faculty in celebration of Valentine’s Day. Students were invited to leave notes on paper hearts to teachers, custodians, and staff. The hearts were used to decorate the faculty lounge. Thanks to the Staff Appreciation Committee for making this happen!
Join us for our next PTO meeting on March 8th at 6:30pm in the LMC. After this, we only have one more meeting before the end of the year!

Butter Braid Sale
The Butter Braid fundraiser is fast approaching, so be on the lookout for your students to bring home their order forms. The sale begins March 7th with delivery scheduled for April 14th …. Just in time for your Easter festivities! Thanks to Tanya Jindrich and Lori Wolfberg for stepping up to chair the Butter Braid sale.
Spring Saver’s FunDrive
I am so happy to announce that U-Haul very generously donated a U-Pack storage container to HBMS to be used for collecting our donations to Saver’s. Be on the lookout for the U-Haul container in the parking lot. Becky Fitch will be in touch with drop off dates. The PTO is so pleased to be partnering with the HBMS National Junior Honors Society students, Student Council and Dual Language Ambassador students in this effort. Remember to save your spring cleaning discards to donate to the FUNDrive! This year’s event will coincide with Earth Day, with collections ending on April 5th.
Honor Roll Breakfast
Every year the PTO sponsors a breakfast for students who have been on the Honor Roll for at least one of the first two trimesters of the school year. Each student who is invited to attend receives a big breakfast and a chance to win prizes. Thanks to Kelli Wegener and Edie Rudolf for co-chairing this event to recognize our Beardsley Bears! The PTO needs volunteers to help set-up/serve/clean-up on the day of the event, food donations, gift cards and prizes so we can honor these hard-working students.
The dates of the breakfasts are: 6th Grade Wednesday April 20th
7th Grade Thursday, April 21st
8th Grade Friday, April 22nd

** The PTO can also use your help in collecting Prizes for the Raffle! Clothing/gear from their future high school, college gear, sports gear, tickets to a game, or gift cards to their favorite store or food/coffee/ice cream destination. Any amount would be wonderful!
8th Grade Dance – May 20th: LIGHT UP THE NIGHT
Light up the Night is the winning theme (Glow Sticks, Neon, Laser Lights and all the colors). The sub-committees are in full swing and are gearing up for a night to remember! HBMS families of 8th graders, this night will only be a success with your help. The celebration includes a top notch DJ, decorations, favors, food and refreshments, etc. A SignUp Genius will be available shortly with a wide range of wish list items that we could use to complete our theme. There will also be opportunities for those that prefer to donate time, with decorating and clean-up. If you have any questions, please email co-chairs Tracy Vander Mey and Colleen Bailey at: tvandermey06@gmail.com and cleano18@yahoo.com.
2022-23 PTO Leadership
It is time to begin looking for new leadership for the coming school year. Sadly, Natalie Butler and I will be moving on to high school days, which means we are looking for a new President, Vice President, as well as Treasurer. The opportunity to be the HBMS PTO President has really been a tremendous experience for me. I have been able to work so closely with faculty members, staff and, not to mention, our students. Our leadership team really built some amazing initiatives this year, that will hopefully make the next term for PTO leaders a breeze! Please reach out if you are interested in learning more!
