Dwyer's Teacher of the Year

Congratulations, Mrs. Laura Zellmer! Mrs. Zellmer was chosen by the staff to represent Dwyer as our Teacher of the Year. She is so deserving of this award due to her passion for children and science. She not only started and runs our Environmental Science elective, but she also organizes and chaperones both field trips each year. Students often speak of their time in Catalina and Yosemite as things they will never forget about middle school.

Mrs. Zellmer's passion for students and learning extends way beyond the classroom. She coaches the cross country team, track and field team, and running club for Dwyer. She has also been a HB Lifeguard for 16 years and a Junior Guard Instructor for 14 years. She has often build relationships with students long before they become Dwyer students.

Mrs. Zellmer is a terrific science teacher, team player, and a great role model for youth. She is often heard saying that she hopes to empower more young women to know it's cool to be sporty, smart, and independent. Way to go, Mrs. Zellmer!

District News

The district's annual Parent, Student, and Staff Survey begins soon. We encourage you to take part in the survey, as we use all the data to help our school set goals for this year and next. Our School Site Council goes over parts of the survey as well to help guide our budget to meet the goals set forth from this data. Students will take the survey during school hours in the coming weeks. An opt-out sheet was sent home this week with your child. There is nothing that is needed if you would like your child to participate. Please help in giving your feedback to help us continue to make Dwyer an even better place!

At the last Board Meeting, many parents expressed concerns of safety in our schools. As a result of the meeting, the Board and District have decided to put together a District Safety Committee that will be comprised of experts in the field. These experts will provide input to help us continue to improve our safety protocols district and site wide.

Exceptional Students

We have so many students that are continually winning top awards and this week is no different! Courtney Tonnu passed the Orange County Department of Education's written portion of the Spelling Bee on Tuesday evening and will be competing in the oral rounds Saturday. Good luck, Courtney!

Our art students also entered the California Art Education Association contest and we had 3 students recognized on March 1 for their outstanding pieces. These students were chosen out of all of Orange County! Congratulations to Christina Ngheim for 1st Place, Mathilda Lemon for 3rd Place, and Alexis Caloca for Honorable Mention.
