NEW LEBANON SCHOOL
Weekly Updates
¿Necesita leer nuestro boletín en español?
Hello Bobcat Families! Spring is in the air. We hope you have a fabulous weekend - there are several important updates below. Before our Spring Recess starts at the end of next week, free self test kits will be available beginning Tuesday for every student and staff member in the District. If you would like a test kit from New Lebanon School, please fill out the survey here!
Mrs. Bertone is having her baby!
We are excited to announce that Mrs. Bertone will be having her baby in the upcoming weeks - her last day with us will tentatively be on Thursday, April 14th. We wish her the best of luck as she embarks on this journey with her family! Ms. Cristina Valdovinos will be filling her place as our Kindergarten teacher for the remainder of the 2021-2022 school year. Most recently, Ms. Valdovinos covered Ms. VanRoden’s leave while she was out for surgery, and prior to that she served as our daily substitute teacher. She herself is a graduate of Greenwich Public Schools (and New Leb!) and takes pride in returning to the classroom now as a teacher.
COVID Tracker
We will keep reminding you to please keep your children home if they are not feeling well, even if the symptoms they are experiencing are very mild. We continue to experience small clusters of positive cases in a limited number of classes. Because of these multiple cases, we have temporarily cohorted thoses classes as much as possible, keeping them separate from other classes during lunch, recess, etc. We encourage you to review our updated COVID tracker and stay up-to-date with our daily GPS Health Alerts. For any questions about isolation and quarantine, please speak to your school nurse or review the CDC COVID Quarantine Calculator.
Flu Season
We are now seeing a slight uptick of flu and stomach ailments. The flu was almost nonexistent last year in our schools, so we want families to know we are seeing cases emerging.
Spring & Bugs - Reminders from Nurse Nancy!
Spring and warmer temperatures mean new blooms and new bugs. During bath time please check your children's skin and scalp for ticks - especially if they have been in a wooded area. Clothing that has been worn in a wooded area should be removed upon entering the house and washed and dried before use again. When students are in a wooded area their shirts should be tucked in to their pants. A hat should be work and if wearing long pants, socks should go over the pants. If a tick is found on a student's body and is easy to remove, it should be removed. If it is embedded in their skin, their medical doctor should be called. Dog ticks are much larger and do not carry Lyme Disease but smaller deer tick females can carry Lyme Disease and the Department of Health Lab at Greenwich Town Hall can test them. If the tick is negative for Lyme Disease there is nothing to do. If the tick is positive for Lyme Disease your doctor must be notified immediately. People can become very ill from Lyme Disease, but this can be avoided by tick checking, removing the tick, getting it tested, and being in touch with your medical doctor. Thank you for your cooperation!
