Webinar: Tips and Tricks from Competent Communicators Who use AAC

On Tuesday, December 1, we watched the webinar Tips and Tricks from Competent Communicators Who use AAC as a class. This was presented by Patricia Politano, PhD, CCC-SLP/L, ATP Assistive Technology Unit University of Illinois at Chicago.

This session webinar was based on the stories and advice of 70 different competent communicators. Understanding the life experience of AAC users can be critical to helping students overcome barriers to communication and participation.Topics included strategies for empowering students to educate unfamiliar communication partners, revealing their personality and keeping their communication partner engaged.

Patricia Politano concludes her presentation with an inspiring point: It is only by breaking down barriers to interactions at every level that each individual who relies on AAC will have the opportunity to participate in all aspects of life.
