Definition
Concussion- a traumatic brain injury that alters the way your brain functions
Cause
Caused by a blow to the head, they can also occur when the head and upper body are violently shaken
Assessment Findings
- Appears dazed or stunned
- Confused
- Answers questions slowly
- Repeats questions
- Cant recall events
- Loses consciousness
- Shows behavior or personality changes
Symptoms
- Difficulty thinking clearly
- Feeling sluggish
- Headache
- Nausea or vomiting
- Balance problems or dizziness
- Fatigue or feeling tired
- Blurry vision
- Numbness
- Irritable
- Sad
- Drowsy
Field Treatment
- DO NOT let them play
Hospital Treatment
- CT scan
- Rest
Prevention
- Buckling your seat belt
- Wearing protective gear during sports and recreational activities
- Making your home safe
- Protecting your children
- Exercising regularly
- Educating others
