Renaming of North Park Jr High School

June 10, 2021

On June 9, 2021, the Lockport City School District Board of Education approved the recommendation of the NPJHS Renaming Committee to rename the school Aaron Mossell Junior High School. The District will now submit paperwork to the New York State Education Department to officially make the name change.

The renaming of the school pays tribute to Aaron Mossell as an outstanding individual who made significant contributions to the community of Lockport and its school system. Mr. Mossell is a person for all of our students to look towards and emulate.

Special thanks to all of the NPJHS Renaming Committee members for their efforts throughout the process. They include Craig Bacon, City Historian/Assistant County Historian; Renee Cheatham, Board of Education Trustee; Vincent Davis, community member; Kelly Mahalic, teacher and social studies department chair; Ellen Schratz, City Alderwoman at Large; Bernadette Smith, North Park Jr High School principal; and George Wiley, North Park Jr High School student.
