Upton Update

Welcome Back!

I am so excited to welcome you back to a new school year! Our mission statement is "ensuring high levels of learning for ALL students." The staff at Upton have worked very hard to get ready for your child's arrival. They will be sending home information introducing themselves to you and providing important information about their classrooms. Please make sure you check your child's folder for this information!

New Staff

First Day of School...Tuesday!

Our first day is scheduled for Tuesday, September 8. This will be a full day of school for students. The first bell will ring at 8:20 a.m. with class starting at 8:25 a.m. Our lunch time is 11:31-12:19. Grades K-2 will eat lunch from 11:31-11:55 and have recess from 11:55-12:19. Grades 3-5 will have recess from 11:31-11:55 and have lunch from 11:55-12:19. The students will be dismissed at 3:30 p.m.

Welcome New Families Coffee

On our first day, we are inviting all of our new families to gather in the Media Center for coffee and a snack starting at 8:35 a.m. Our PTA will provide a brief introduction about the different activities they will be sponsoring this year, ways to get involved, and opportunities to purchase a membership ($7 per person or $14 per family). I will also answer any questions you may have about the school.

Student Drop-off/Pick-up

To help manage the amount of traffic Upton receives on a daily basis, our families who have Kindergarten students will continue to use the back entrance off the north parking lot for drop-off/pick-up. All other grades will continue to use the circle drive for drop-off/pick-up. Specific directions for use of the circle drive are located in the Upton Handbook and on the Upton website. If you plan on parking or exiting your vehicles, you need to park in a designated spot either on the street or in one of the four parking spaces located in the circle drive. Please note, there are also two parking spaces restricted for handicapped parking only.

Ice Cream Social

This Friday, September 11, our PTA will be hosting an Ice Cream Social starting at 6:30 p.m. This event is FREE and offers a great opportunity to meet other Upton families. I look forward to seeing you there!

Dentists R Us

We have been very fortunate to have "Dentists R Us" join us for a second year. Your child will be bringing home a form to complete if you are interested in this service. The form is due back in the Main Office by Friday morning, September 11.

Registration

Please make sure you complete the registration process prior to the start of school. I appreciate all of you that have already done this! In order to do this, you will need to visit the Royal Oak Schools website and sign on to Parent Connect. You will need your PIN and password. When doing this, it is especially important to verify your phone numbers and contact names and phone numbers.
