Southeastern Scene
Weekly Happenings at Southeastern Elementary
Principal's Postings
Welcome to the February 10, 2019, edition of Southeastern Scene.
Dear Southeastern Families:
Our family book study has been a time where parents, teachers, and community members share their thoughts, ideas, and questions. At our last meeting, we talked more in depth about the 6 C’s that the book Becoming Brilliant discusses. These skills are important to nurture and grow in our children. The six C’s this book focuses on are collaboration, communication, critical thinking, creative innovation, content, and confidence. Below is a chart on which we brainstormed our ideas, and also a quote from the book when we discussed creative innovation.
Join us for our last Family Book Study on February 18th at 5:30pm at Southeastern Elementary. There will be free childcare for anyone who needs it!
Yours in education,
Mrs. Chastain

Boys and Body Image
Boys are affected by the media's depictions of unrealistic body types. Help them attain their own ideal body image -- not someone else's. Please read advice from Common Sense Media editors about how to talk with boys about body image by clicking this link.
Age-Appropriate Movies
During this awards season celebrating the "best of" movies in Hollywood, it can be challenging to find appropriate movies to watch with the family. This link from Common Sense Media offers age-appropriate ideas and inspiration for every interest level, and will help find the best for your family.

Nurse's Notes
CDC always recommends everyday preventative actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory virus, including:
- Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- Avoid toughing eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the rash. Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
